PVP Martavis Bryant

Postby Adrian_Charlie » Thu Feb 16, 2017 11:26 am

A few days ago I ran a poll on Twitter for Martavis Bryant. Should he get reinstated and stay out of trouble, he will be a fantasy gold mine. There are a lot of variables in there, though! Will he pull a Josh Gordon? Will he continue his ways and get booted out of the game? What are you willing to risk for that opportunity?

I think he's worth a late 1st, and possibly a 3rd or WR4/5. I was interested in the results of the twitter poll. What do you say DLF forum? If you're curious, the results are below. Don't think there will be a consensus until we see him play, or see him burn his last chance. Always tough to price these guys.

I don't know any Martavis owner who would sell for a 2nd... Muchless selling at all after holding him all of last year. That ship sailed. Bryant is the missing piece in the Steelers offense and the team knows it. Brown on one side and Bryant on the other will be deadly. Oh and there was a Sports Illustrated feature on him a few weeks ago. He never lifted weights regularly at any level in his life. He has apparently recommitted himself to the game (after almost walking away when he got suspended) , started lifting weights and has put on over 10 lbs of muscle. I'm all in on Bryant as a top 15 WR this year.

I'd hold out as a seller for a first round pick but no way I would pay that. Far too much risk for me.

I pretty much view him as unmovable. I would probably only take the risk for a mid 2nd as a buyer.

Or better yet, hold him until he's "ready" to be reinstated. More realistic selling window

He already applied for re-instatement so it is now a "yes" or a "no" from league...is that what you mean by ready?

No way I'd buy for a 1st. Absolutely no way.

I don't own him anywhere but I'd probably consider selling for an early 2nd. I don't trust him and I'm not sure how someone could make a case for him being trust worthy at this point and worth a 1st. He was a mid to late first round pick as a rookie in most drafts. He flashed great upside but also showed a floor that is about like that of Josh Gordon.

For current owners, I'd suggest holding. Maybe he makes a come back. He isn't a buy if people are expecting a 1st in return. Too much risk in my opinion, and, this is coming from a guy that firmly believes too many people overvalue draft picks at this time of the year.
Truth is found through Evidence.

* Reality (as defined by Webster's dictionary) - A word for things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional ideal of them.

During last year's rookie draft I moved 2.04 for Bryant and felt great about it. That owner scooped Perkins at 2.04, a player I was considering at the time. Cool to hear everyone's thoughts on him.

I agree. I wouldn't buy for a 1st. If I had him, I'd need some juice with a late 1st to consider dealing him, depending on the roster.

I did not know all of this, interesting. I will say it seems dependent on what your other roster situations are, as far as your willingness to pay a 1st vs a 2nd for Bryant. I have Hopkins/M. Thomas/Robinson/Diggs/Adams/Maclin/ J. Brown....with several 2nd year guys. I also own Gordon/M. Bryant. I am willing to hold both Bryant and Gordon until they resurrect their respective careers, based on the upside that both still possess. I am not at the mercy of a lack of WR depth, which allows me to have patience with both players. If I didn't have the WRs I did, I think I would be more apt to trade for what I would see as less than their real value.

I'm pretty sure this poll will roughly mirror the results you got on Twitter. Anyone that owns him is not going to sell for a 2nd rounder at this point, and anyone buying likely won't be willing to part with even a late 1st unless they've got a couple of them. I know I'd only be willing to offer a 2nd, and as I say am realistic that such a proposal wouldn't be accepted.

If you've got deeper rosters or suspended players can be placed in an IR slot then you can afford to hold a Gordon/Bryant type. In our shallow league I think it's a waste of a roster spot personally. Only so much baggage you can carry with 20 spots available.
14 Team, No-PPR, 20 Man Roster, TD Heavy, TD = 6, FG = 3, Start: QB, 2RB, 2WR, TE, Flex, K, D

Yeah, that's a good price that I think a new owner can feel pretty good about and I can get why an old owner would be frustrated and just want to move on.
