Is there a TE to own in Baltimore?

Postby slaughterrt » Wed Feb 08, 2017 10:32 am

Between Pitta, Watson, Gilmore, Maxx, Waller, and Boyle, is there any good one to own?

Waller was getting a little hype toward the end of the year. I don't think he's a long term answer but Baltimore seems to want him there.

Waller has the best upside but I wouldn't want to count on any of them.

I'd roster Pitta and Watson if I was looking for short term depth and Waller and Maxx for a longer term gamble.

IMO, Williams/Waller are the upside play, Pitta is the production play that is unlikely to carry much trade value.

People love to preach patience with young Tight Ends, but Williams is another example of patience not being practiced with young Tight Ends.

Pitta is the best option there but to answer the question, no...there isn't one you should want to own.

Again, this is dynasty. I'll leave it at that. The basic understanding of patience and awareness of the learning curve of different NFL skilled positions seems to evade a disturbingly high % of forum posters.

It is fairly annoying.

You are basing your position on the assumption that one of the existing TEs in Baltimore has upside. I do not share that opinion - thus my flat out answer of "none". Dynasty or not, there are still players who have very little value. I didn't like Maxx Williams coming out and I am not about to jump on some kind of "patience" bandwagon believing in his upside. There is NO ONE on the current roster in Baltimore at TE that I want to own.

Fair as you have your right to like who you like. But you very straight forwardly said "no...there isn't one you should want to own." I'm of the mindset that one or maybe more than one TE on that roster at this time has fantasy upside yes. I think it makes perfect sense to share my opinion as there is substantial evidence that supports that claim. However, your simply making a judgement and digging your heels in the sand far too early. And based on that, you are telling others that inquire that they should NOT want one from that roster based off of nothing but your premature opinion. Simple as that. I'm quite sure you are aware of the TE learning curve in the NFL. I'm also quite sure you are aware that some of the best TE in the history of the game have had very slow starts to their career for a verity of reasons. Be it depth, injury, acclimation process, qb, scheme, wr target demand, whatever.... So, to be clear, I think its fine that you yourself have that kind of opinion as I don't really have a horse in the race. I think it is important that on these forums that we clarify, that in reality - there is no real way to come to the definitive conclusion that you have at this time, when it comes to the current TE on that roster.

When you have 2 or more QBs you have no QB. When you have 6 TEs you have ? at TE? There is no reason to hold anyone but Pitta as a short term matchup play in most start 1 TE leagues. There are just too many starting TEs available to waste a roster spot on anyone else. Williams does not have the upside you want in a prospect to hold as a 3rd TE and does not have a big enough role for your #2. There is talk Waller must go back to WR to have a shot at making the team in 2017.
