Lynch the new GM of the 49ers

You could make a legitimate argument for worst GM hire ever made.
Look, I like John Lynch, I liked him as a player, I have liked him as a TV analyst for games, but he has ZERO experience in this role.
He has no experience scouting and evaluating players, no experience in taking information from scouts, taking information from his coaches, and with that information, creating a plan for free agency and draft to build a roster. He has no experience hiring and firing coaches and other organizational positions. He has no experience with the salary cap. He has no true football relative knowledge of every single player in the NFL, every single player on teams practice squads, every single free agent that could potentially contribute to the 49ers team. All while trying to evaluate college players.
I've probably even forgot elements that are part of a GMs job in that and even the elements I forgot, Lynch has zero experience with.

Shannahan is tanking his NFL coaching career before he can even get it started. He's going to an abysmal roster, with a hated organization with a no experience 1st time GM.
The 49ers aren't going to be relevant until at least 2020 and probably not even then. Disaster of a hire, PERIOD

Between my 10 years of experience officiating highschool football, my 12,000 posts on here and then spending the last week at the Senior Bowl scouting players I think that I'm almost as deserving of this job as Lynch is...This is truly hilarious, sorry for you 49er fans.

To echo others, this seems like a career killer for Shannahan. With no experience in any of the key aspects of the job it looks like Lynch will be overwhelmed. What could possibly be going on behind the scenes for this to actually happen?

"The general manager will in many cases have oversight of the entire football department, typically reporting to the team president/CEO and/or owner. However, some teams have the GM act in advisory role with the head coach having oversight of the football operations (including the GM)."

Yeah I'm on Slack with our other 31 managers in our league and half of us thought it was a complete joke when a manager dropped the news. We have a diehard 9ers fan in the group and he had no words for what happened today. I'm sure there are a few that are hoping they are having a bad dream and wake up to different news tomorrow.

I don't understand why people are laughing at this. Peyton Manning was linked as a possible GM for the Colts. If he were to get that position would we be all saying the same thing?

There is more to it than simply saying 'he has no job experience' and considering it end of story. Time will tell, though it is no doubt a surprise. 6 years is a hefty commitment. At the end of the line though, there will have been worse GMs in history, and probably even worse decisions made by management in very recent times.
