Consensus number one (2017) draft?

Postby People Mover » Mon Dec 05, 2016 1:26 pm

Is there a consensus number one in the upcoming draft? A player who is head and shoulders above the rest? Or is it close?

Cook is the guy for me. Great speed, vision. Hoping guys fall in love with fournette and allow cook to slip a bit. He'd be my 1st pic today.

I prefer Cook, he seems to be more of a complete back than Fournette and I think his style of play should provide a longer career. However, I think it will really come down to landing spots. If either of them land in poor offenses, I'll probably trade my 1.1 for Jordan Matthews.

I'm also leaning Cook, so much more productive/better than FSU's last 2 RBs and huge in the passing game (granted Karlos Williams was a DB for most of his college career). I'm not overly concerned by Fournette missing this season as both have been banged up but I think it's those two in a nutshell and you're better off trading down/trading for a player if you were wanting to take someone else.

But again, so much time needs to pass before the draft, things can change drastically.

So to sum up the previous posts: no. There isn't a consensus number one who is head and shoulders above the rest. At least right now.

The answer to your question is a big fat NO. By definition there is not one guy that the majority of people agree is the #1 prospect. Even after the draft I doubt there will be. I this will be similar to the 2015 draft. One premium elite WR prospect (Amari then, Mike Williams now), a couple really high end WR prospects just a notch below that (White & Parker then, JuJu & Corey Davis and maybe even Sutton now), and a couple elite RB prospects (Gurley & Gordon then, Fournette & Cook now although I still lump Chubb in there as well). The main difference will be the TE talent and the depth at RB this year

The closest you'll get is a consensus GROUP at the top: Fournette, Mike Willliams, & Cook (for most people)

Can we at least agree on a top 3?

Cool, Fournette, Williams?

Yeah tough to get a consensus on a #1 any given year...last year was kind of an exception and this year may be tougher given the RB/WR split. Rebuilders a couple years out might want to line up Williams even if Fournette/Cook are viewed as better prospects.
I like Fournette though if we are calling it today

Fournette has been the clear #1 for a while and will probably go Top 10 in the draft.

There won't be a consensus 1.01 right now, but most would probably agree on the top five: Fournette, Cook, Chubb, Williams, Davis (in no particular order). Some will say Fournette because he looks like AP. Others will say Cook because of his all-around game. Few will say Chubb if he hadn't blown his knee up. Zero-RB-strategists will say Williams/Davis because WR>RB. I'd say trade for any top six pick and you'll likely walk away from the draft happy.

JuJu, McAffery, and Sutton will be the other names some will include in their top 4-6 right now.

I could see Chubb slipping to the back of round one in drafts, depending on the NFL evaluation of his health, but maybe that is just wishful thinking
