Forcing a tie - playoffs

Postby KCLep20 » Fri Dec 02, 2016 2:08 pm

So here's the situation....in a seasonal league with work guys, our Commish and I play each other this week. We are both tied at 6-6 and whoever wins will make the playoffs and whoever loses will be left in the cold. He came to me after realizing if we tie, we would both be in. So we both took everyone out of our lineup so that we will tie 0-0 and ensure we make the playoffs.

One owner is throwing a fit due to he might be able to get in with 1 of us losing and another owner losing too. There are no rules against it, and while it's not the most ethical thing to do, it mutually benefits both of our teams.

Thoughts?

This is why it's important to try and submit the best lineup you can each week. Integrity. The scenario you describe no doubt benefits you and the other owner in this instance (the commissioner no less) but it's detrimental to the league as a whole, and the "complaining" owner has a legitimate gripe. You two are colluding to tank the game to ensure your playoff births at the expense of another owner who has a shot to get in.

Show some integrity, submit your best lineups, and let the chips fall where they may. To do otherwise is indeed shady, regardless if it's not explicitly illegal under your league rules.

If I was in a league and something like this went down, it would be the last season I'd participate.

I think this sums up you and the other owner quite nicely.

C'mon, man. Can't do this at all. I would quit a league that allowed this type of act whether it was spelled out or not. Is this a dynasty league? If so, plan on it falling apart at season's end and receiving a lot of angry emails and texts.

I'm most shocked that a commish would be involved in this.

There have been so many threads like this lately.

I haven't seen one where I would call it a good strategy - even if it is technically not against the rules.

...even worse, this is the commish that came to you...

Indeed. I have so many negative things to say that I am just beyond words. Not only would this ruin the league but any "friendship" your co-workers should have with you. If this is how you behave in a game, this would cause me to question every aspect of your character and that of the commissioner when it comes to your performance at your job.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

Good lord you guys take this too seriously.

We all pow-wow'd and agreed to set a lineup. i was just seeing what the consensus was, you guys really get bent out of shape for a seasonal league.

Totally. You sir, and your commish, are rotten human beings. I can't even imagine what else you think is acceptable.
