Kenyan Drake - Signed by Oakland

Postby cucamonga » Mon Aug 29, 2016 11:26 am

I've been a member of the forum for almost a year. I haven't been on here a whole lot this off season as I've got a child on the way and been preparing to get married. I apologize in advance because I'm sure there's been extensive discussion on The Drake. 3rd RB off the board, dynamic runner, lots if speed and a somewhat decent situation IMO. I missed him in my rookie draft last week; was gonna take him at 3.5 but I traded it for a 2017 2nd. The guy who drafted him says he'd possibly do The Drake for that 2nd and Andre Ellington. I'm considering it. Does anyone here believe this guy can be a RB1, some of his college tape suggests that's definately possible. Thanks!

Only way he becomes an rb1 is because of an insane amount of receptions in PPR like Woodhead or Vereen. Otherwise, I don't see it. He looks like a solid 3DRB.

I would rather have the 2017 second round pick over Drake at the moment. He is very injury prone and hasn't done anything in the preseason to warrant a top 20 rookie draft pick. His stock has fell lately but I'm sure it will rise again once he sees the field during the season.

Like Cameron said, He seems like he could be a good PPR pick but wont ever be a bellcow. Might be able to get some change of pace work on 1st and 2nd down but not more than that.

I traded up to grab him. Really liked what I saw but you got to temper the expectations as far as RB1. Ronnie Hillman was what I was hoping for with him but he has been a total no show to date.

I took him at 2.04 in the DLFPL, which is a 16-team league. I'm definitely not expecting a 3-down back, but to me he has the talent to perhaps become a Woodhead/Vereen/Sproles type. The question for Drake hasn't been talent, it's been whether he can stay on the field for long enough to make an impact.

Thanks for the insight, I do appreciate it.

I went back and watched some tape on him and then for shits some Texas tape on Jamaal Charles right after. Gulp.. I'm gonna catch hell here but I see a lot of similarities there. What were guys saying about Charles before his rookie year? I wasn't into dynasty back then.

I wasn't either.

But my first instinct was to say you're crazy, so I went and watched them side by side just for fun, and yup, you're crazy. Charles is just on another level, his speed and agility pop compared to Drake immediately. Vision, acceleration, just looking side by side, moves and shiftiness... Drake is good as any back drafted to the league will look in college highlights but this might be a case of you starting to fall in love with a player and wanting to believe they can be more than they are. I took Drake with the hope of him carving out a committee role and maybe some RB2 numbers if I'm lucky

He's decent, and he has a relatively fair path to opportunity (Foster is old; Ajayi is questionable). He's worth a shot.

I've got him stashed in a couple leagues. Now is a good time to buy stock in him if you think he has a shot down the road, as a rookie year impact seems to not be in the cards currently. Idk about RB1 upside, but he could be solid if he is able to stay healthy.

I'd probably keep the pick.. and wait and see if the owner gets tired of holding him after the first few months..

its gambling cause foster and ajayi could get hurt right off the bat

Drake and Charles were both the 73rd overall pick in the NFL draft. That HAS to mean something!

He just went undrafted in a rookie draft I was in last weekend. It was a 12 team league, and a hand full of vets were taken.......but still pretty crazy. I didn't have a 4th, but am going to drop A Collins for him when waivers open up.
