I am only posting in this resurrected thread because in my original post I mentioned that Nate Davis should have been given a shot once the Niners were eliminated from the playoffs.

I still don't think Alex Smith is the answer. But who knows, a full training camp with Crabtree could change things.

The guy showed improvement from his 2006 season...why so down?

Alex Smith this year (10 games)
2400 yards (372 attempts)
61% completion %
18 td's and 12 INT's (projects to 29 TD's and 19 INT's)

Peyton Manning in 1998 (16 games)
3800 yards (575 attempts)
57% completion %
26 TD's and 28 INT's

Peyton Manning in 2001 (16 games)
4100 yards (547 attempts)
63% completion %
26 TD's and 23 INT's

Peyton Manning in 2002 (16 games)
4200 yards (591 attempts)
66% completion %
27 TD's and 19 INT's

181 career INT's in 12 seasons = 15 INT's a year. (6 years at or above 15 INT's)

Matt Ryans rookie year (16 games)
3500 yards (434 attempts)
61% competion %
16 td's and 11 INT's

Matt Ryans sophomore year (14 games)
3000 yards (451 attempts)
58% completion %
22 TD's and 14 INT's

Unless you all are weighing in what you believe to be the IT factor, once again DLF you are failing me. All of this doubt is seriously unjustified. Decision making can be fixed with timing, coordination, and practice (example: Peyton Manning)...Smith isnt and wont be Peyton Manning but considering all the changes in SF over the last couple years I dont know if you can blame HIM. He hasnt done TERRIBLY for what his opportunities have been worth. And for the first time he will actually have the same coach/offense for more than a year so he is going to improve, and has been improving....so I dont understand where all of this doubt is coming from.

that wasnt the main point I was making (in case you didnt bother to read the whole post)...but ok, lets talk about the 18 TD's he threw in 10 games...4 less than Matt Ryan did in 4 more games.
