Postby UATahoe » Thu May 24, 2018 7:46 pm

Assuming a 25 man roster, when are you guys busting the seal on drafting your first QB? Getting ready for my first startup draft next weekend. Up to this point I have just drafted in redraft. My current dynasty team was an orphan takeover.

I usually look around rounds 5-6, it kinda depends on how the other owners are drafting. Also depends on how your leagues scoring is, some of my leagues are just 4 points per passing TD so that makes a difference too.

As the previous poster said, it's going to depend somewhat on the scoring settings of your league. If it's a 6pt TD league, I'd be comfortable with round 3/4 depending on who is left and who you're after, but if other people jump on a QB early and you're left with guys you don't care for, then pick up one later. I personally took Rodgers at the end of round 1 (pick 12) when we did our startup 3 years ago. I'm still happy with that choice, although it's not how you're supposed to draft a dynasty team.

Interesting. I was initially thinking it would be around round 8-9 before I took one. Scoring in this league will be 6 pts per TD. Definitely agree it depends on how things start unfolding during the draft.

I didn't go QB until round 9 and got Stafford and Carr. 6 point per TD pass also. What I would do is set your floor (who is the last guy you are comfortable having as your QB 1), and watch the way the board goes

I think thats exactly what I will do. I think I am going to do that at WR and Rb too. Breakout tiers for each group and set limits for where I would want my starting lineup to fall. Will be some give and take but that will help keep me focused on when and what position I should draft. Thanks for the advice!

I’ve only done one dynasty startup so take this with a large ocean of salt.

Build a big board and stick to it. The way I personally would build a board, I wouldn’t hesitate taking a guy like Rodgers Wentz Wilson maybe even Watson pretty early. If they go too early I’m very likely to wait until really late, but try and double up on some declining vets and lottery ticket younger guys.
