When dynasty football becomes part of your everyday life...

Postby melish1631 » Fri Feb 24, 2012 8:02 am

I work in the mutual fund business and we deal with a ton of acronyms...everything is an acronym! Every time I discuss products and training with new hires and refer to one of our sales desk - the IBD (Independent Broker Dealer) Desk, I continuously say IDP! This has been going on for the last year or so...the new people always look at me and turn theirs heads like dogs when they hear strange noises! I catch myself doing and can't begin to explain WTF I am referring to...
This is a dumb, everyday story that I had to post...Anyone else have similar stupid stuff to share???
DLF IDP Invitational (Commish)
IDP Smallville
IDP Big Play

Yeah, when I'm hanging out with my friends and say something like "you know, you sound like Skip" , and they have no idea who "Skip" is or what I'm referring to. And if they are girls, I change the subject, better that girls don't know about our DLF lives :)
“I had a couple of drinks. I started in 1970 and finished in 1985. It was a very big drink.” - Alice Cooper
“I’m sick to death of people saying we’ve made 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we’ve made 12 albums that sound exactly the same.” - Angus Young of AC/DC
"Every album Van Halen did was actually an Eddie solo album" - Eddie Van Halen
"Don't hate me because I'm fabulous" - Prince

Shawn - I'd be much more worried if you said that one of these girls in fact knew Skip. Then I'd wonder who you were hanging out with exactly. :P

It is extremely addicting... I find myself counseling young soldiers using FF analogies & acronyms, as if the military doesn't have enough, all the time....

"If you take that position, your player value increases greatly.... you'll be definite 1st rounder."

"What duty station would be your top draft pick, is the 1.01 Ft Lewis, WA?"

Fortunately, they just laugh and think the 'ol sarge has lost it.... they may be right

On the front of our church bulletin today read; "Mark 1.10"...and I immediately thought about who would be available with the 1.10 rookie pick this year. :shifty:

I now constantly use the terms "upside", "floor" and "ceiling" about everything. It's totally changed my vocabulary when describing things. In my line of work I talk about political candidates all the time and when I use these terms people's eyes glaze over and I have to translate it into some arcane industry language.
