I'm not sure tragic would be the best word to describe it.

Gang member, killed a person, went to prison and eventually killed himself. Would rather "keep it real" then make something of himself as a professional, so he lived the life he chose to live. Natural consequences for consistently bad choices.

No need for rose colored glasses at this point.

Agreed. People often try to sugarcoat perception when someone passes away, but it isn't always realistic. Sure he has family, but he was not a good dude. His actions show it. The fact he played football doesn't change that he wasn't a good due either. Unfortunate he was what he was, but that's who he was. Another one bites the dust.

It seems like you guys and I share the same sentiment. He had every opportunity to improve his life but he kept his unfortunate ways. And now we are here. Good people being hurt is a tragedy, a gangbanging murderer hanging himself after getting a life sentence.. Not so much, but the whole he wouldnt do it thing is interesting

I agree this is very interesting. It doesn't quite fit, but writing John 3:16 on your forehead in blood then killing yourself after smoking some K2 does sound like a scenario I'd consider. That stuff drives some people insane. Or he took bath salts. No suicide note would suggest it was spontaneous. But regardless of the actual truth, the story will take on cult like status in the future like Tupac or Elvis living on an island. Wouldn't shock me if the guards were in on whatever happened somehow.

In a way I was hoping a thread wouldn't be made on this topic. It's just a sensitive subject that can leave people with strong opinions and feelings on many sides of the subject. We argue FF and NFL topics all the time, which is what these boards are for. I just ask that anyone commenting in this particular thread to please at least respect the opinions of others and try not to let this thread deteriorate into something it shouldn't be.

As for my personal opinion, this is a tragic situation all around. Not that I am saying people should mourn or feel sorry for Aaron himself, but I do feel immense sorrow for all the lives that were affected, from the families who suffered due to his crimes, to the family of his who must have suffered a great deal and experienced immense lost due to actions that they had no part of. If nothing else, this serves as a cautionary tale and unfortunately is a scenario that we see far to often in society.

Agreed with Buckeye.

It's unfortunate that it came to this and it's still sad - regardless of sympathy or what not.

I'll leave it at that.

I feel sorry for his daughter, who now has to grow up fully knowing who and what her father was and never being able to ask him about it to learn/grow from his mistakes. Choosing to leave a child to grow up without you is a cowardly move, and once again, shows his true character.

I also feel sorry for the lives he has ruined. He killed at least 1 man, who also had a family that continues to mourn his loss. He very well could have killed 2 more, but was acquitted. It's safe to say he left this world much worse than he found it, which is a pity given he had every opportunity to change lives for the better and chose not to.

Good riddance, you terrible, terrible human being.

This is the perfect summation of the situation.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think it's ok to feel badly, even for someone who did terrible things. I just wonder if things would have been different had he gotten real help when he was younger. It's always interesting to learn what kind of demons they've dealt with most of their lives that led them to do what they did. Not trying to make excuses for him at all and I think murder is probably the worst thing anyone can ever do. Like the OP said, just a very tragic situation all around for everyone involved.

As others have said, I do feel that this whole thing is extremely tragic and sad. No matter how evil someone is, I take NO pleasure in thinking about someone's life ending, and passing into the wrong side of eternity.

I agree.

To add: One thing I've been learning is that a huge part of taking care of yourself starts with making decisions you can live with. And being able to accept the consequences of those decisions. I imagine with him being so young that life in prison, with little chance for redemption this was the only way out that he could control. Sad.
