Took over orphan superflex

Postby Charlie1980 » Wed Jan 16, 2019 10:14 am

Took over an orphan superflex, looking for help addressing qb issues. Only have rivers and tyrod on roster. What are guys like wentz or jimmy g worth? Top 10 rb or wr? More?

Top QB are worth more than the RB and WR ranked similarly. I wouldn't trade Wentz for a top 5 WR or RB. The only one I might consider is Barkley, but I would have to have a very good QB rotation to do it.

Starting QB don't just fall off of trees. That being said, Jimmy G should cost a bit less than Wentz. Might want to post your team or see some of the previous deals that went down for QB in this league to figure out the league value on QB.

Well, I'm new to dynasty and superflex so I'm not entirely sure what I should be doing with this team. I look at the roster and see I'm in bad shape at qb/te. Would you approach it differently? Maybe another lesser qb? And try and build through the draft? Curious how others would attempt to improve this team.

Gotcha.

So, here's how I tend (in broad strokes) to approach it.

As-is, is my team competitive for a playoff spot?

IF YES:
As-is, is my team competitive for a championship?

if Yes: Do I have enough assets to supplement or complement that run?
If Yes: Then go for it!
If No: Then stay active on the trade and waiver wire and hope that your guys perform as expected.

If No: Do I have enough assets to get the pieces necessary to build a championship team?
If Yes: Then go for it!
If No: Likely a rebuild.

If NO:
Rebuild.

--------
With your team, I don't think that, as-is, you have a team that would compete for the playoffs. So, you're really in rebuild mode right away. That means that you need multiple pieces to compete in the future. Buying a top QB COSTS multiple pieces, and you don't have them to offer or to spare.

So, you're really looking to sell. Really anyone and everyone. Your goal is acquire as many possible players/picks that have real upside. Obviously, they will have variant probabilities of realizing that upside. But, by creating a team full of upside players, you then need just some to hit to move into the competitive world. And, if more than a few hit, you're a contender.

Yeah, I know: that sounds easy. It ain't. But, for the moment, think rebuild. Buying a big-time QB with whatever limited resources you have isn't the way to start.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my team and give some advice on how to build it moving forward.

I agree that you’re in need of a rebuild. The good news is you’ll be able to fill your rosters with players of your choosing. During this rebuild, your goal is to buy, draft, trade for and pick off waivers, players you think will be around for a long time, or that you can flip for more value. In SF, i try to build around 2-3 QBs 1 TE, and 3-4 WRs due to longevity at the position. Fill in rbs once the rest of the team is set. I wouldnt worry about filling out a competitive starting lineup just yet. The worse you lose this year, the better your pick next year. I’d focus on buying guys that aren’t super expensive right now but should improve a lot. Last year’s rookie QBs would be solid targets. Acquire picks for this year and next year. Good luck.
