CJ Beathard

Started a new 12 team superflex league this year. I now own Beathard, in addition to Brees, Rivers, and Stafford, so I am probably the strongest at QB this year in my league (although not the youngest). If I'm looking to move Beathard to other teams to need him while their regular starters byes come up, what should I be charging? Also, with him playing halfway decent, is he potentially a hold to see if he winds up somewhere else starting next year, or should I take what I can get now (say like a future second rounder)?

Thx

Obviously, the 9ers aren't the best-built team at the moment but Beathard has won ONE game in 11 opportunities.

Seems like he's a somewhat competent backup but I don't think I'm buying for any long-term returns.

The best ideal trade you could probably swing is a 2nd rounder at best for a contending team that may have crappy QB play or had an injury like Jimmy G/Tyrod/Josh Allen

He's underrated. Mobile, strong arm, tough, quick release, willing to take chances........of course he has some drawbacks and a bad record but I can honestly say as a 49ers fan that he's not all that far off from what Jimmy G brings to the table.

I would need a 2nd to sell at this point. He's played well enough for me to hold rather than sell for a random 3rd dart throw.

I would honestly hold. Going into this past offseason I didn't quite understand the 49ers move for Jimmy. I think Jimmy (and everything SF for that matter) is overrated atm. I think Beathard is a decent option and might snag a starting opportunity elsewhere. They didn't win a lot last year and I didn't think QB was the only problem. I guess if you wanted to cash out for an early second it would be good value, but if I owned him I'd just hold unless someone offered me something silly for him.

I'd try for a late 1st from a desperate QB needy team, but would settle for a 2nd. I don't know what his contract situation is, but he's only in his second year, so I doubt he's going anywhere in the near future. The 49ers will keep him for insurance incase Jimmy gets hurt again. He'll most likely be a career backup.

He seems like the type you sell

Reminds me of the Trevor siemian situation I picked him up and flipped him for a 2nd when he started looking ok, then I almost felt bad about it when he started off hot last year but then he fizzled.

FWIW Shanahan compared him to Cousins when he was coming out.

Pretty sure he lost his 2018 starting job last night

Mullen has to be the 49ers starter for the year and main backup once Jimmy G is back right? possibly even trade bait depending on remainder of 2018 performance

I wouldn't read too much into last night. The Raiders are atrocious and had no tape on Mullen. That said, you can't ask for a better start and I certainly expect Mullen to start next week. We'll see what happens from there though. Beathard's overall numbers are okay and he was giving the team an opportunity for the most part. Mullen could just as likely throw 5 INTs next game and never be seen again.

I know it was the Raiders but I'd rather take a shot on Mullens than Beathard I think. I dont know many leagues where this matters at all... even 2 QB if you're rostering these guys for a start, you're probably not competing

Mullens did have some strange mechanics last night at times. I noticed him throw off his back foot unnecessarily a couple times

Was announced on NFL Network that Mullens is expected to start the rest of season..

Unless Mullens truly embarrasses himself out there (aka Peterman disaster), what does SF have to lose in playing him? If he does get the job for the remainder of the year and plays well....it'll be against NYG, SEA x2, CHI, DEN...so some pretty good/decent defenses. Could really make a name for himself.

Yes, Beathard is hurt, but I have to imagine Shanahan already knows what he has in CJ after watching him for 13 games.
