2019 QBs

Postby heydangle » Tue Mar 13, 2018 11:02 pm

I'm in a superflex league that has 1 round (12 picks) devy players that are eligible for the 2019 draft.

Who's your favorite qb (or two)?

Any opinions on the 2019 class yet?

These are the guys on my watch list right now
Jarrett Stidham, Dwayne Haskins, Justin Herbert, Tyree Jackson, Blake Barnett, Shea Patterson, Will Grier, Brett Rypien, Deondre Francois, Jake Browning, Ian Book.

I've barely watched any CFB so who am I missing and which of these are non-prospects?

I'm hoping Tua is legit just so we can get a lefty back in the league.

I really hope this post gets some responses as I am wondering the same thing. I just moved Big Ben for a projected top 4 pick this upcoming draft (felt he was expandable as I have Mahomes & Cousins) and I wanted to capitalize now while I could, given his age and potential to retire.

From what I have seen, this class would be lucky to be half as talented as the 2018 class, which sucks for me because I need a QB and have three 2019 firsts.

Herbert and Stidham appear to be the standouts, from there is seems like a crapshoot. Drew Lock is definitely a name you should add to your list.

Is Tua going to be eligible this upcoming draft? I would love for there to be some lefty magic back in the NFL.

^ True sophomore. He'll be the #1 pick in 2020.

I don't think the 2019 class has the pedigree the last couple classes had...remember that 4 of the 5 top QBs in 2018 would still be playing this year if they didn't declare.

Tier 1
---------------
Herbert

Tier 1B
---------------
Grier
Haskins (OSU)

Rest of the Pack - I don't think these guys have shown the consistency to be regarded as a solid 1st QB prospect so far.
--------------------
Lock (Mizzou)
Stidham (AUB)
Patterson (MICH)

Top Guys

Herbert : Like him a lot altough from what I've seen so far his arm looks above average, not anything special. Great size, good mobility.

Grier: I like his arm talent more than Herberts altough at times he's extremely inconsistent. If he can display some more consistent play I could see him jumping Herbert. Also has a "gamer" mentality.

Lock: Haven't seen enough of him, but he can spin it for sure, has an absolute rifle. Not sure he's a leader/has the 'it' factor.

Sleepers:
Tyree Jackson: You don't see QBs built like this very often. We're talking 6'7 250+. Absolute cannon for an arm, watched him play Eastern Michigan a few weeks ago and was really impressed by his ability to throw on the move. He'll be an intersting guy to watch as the season goes along and could be the 'big riser' during draft season.

McKenzie Milton: He'll get killed for his size and doesn't have a great arm (prob nfl average at best) but easily my fav qb to watch. So gritty, big time leader, just makes plays when his team needs it. We'll see how he does the rest of the year.

Trace McSorley: Definition of a gamer. Reads the field well. Reminds me of Baker Mayfield but with more athleticism, but not nearly as good of an arm.

If Paxton Lynch goes at the end of Round 1, and Jackson has a solid year, I have to imagine some team would drool over that size and arm.

Funny how a landscape can change over a week:

- Herbert still top option at this point, but there are grumblings he could stay at Oregon....which would be incredibly dumb from a monetary standpoint.

- Haskins, appears to be trending upward.

Stidham, Lock and Grier all had rough games this past weekend.

Herbert going back to Oregon
Haskins top QB in this class
Daniel Jones from Duke

Will Grier from WVU, but not sure he becomes more than average NFL QB due to limitations with arm strength
Haven't dug deeper yet in the class
Tyree Jackson very athletic and has a cannon, but limited college and game experience. Needs to work on foot work and overstriding in the two games I watched of his on TV.

jarret Stidham has continually regressed from player I thought he would be. Need to watch more games, but against Clemson seems like he gets stage fright when lights get bright and seemed to cower under pressure in limited games I watched. he's like a bright 200 watt lightbulb that keeps flickering but won't stay on.

Will be happy to chime back in after get a chance to dig into this class. Curious to hear other's opinions

- Herbert, definitely risking a lot by going back to school. Sure, Peyton Manning worked out but I don't think any of us are seeing Herbert on his level.

- Haskins, lookings like the clear QB1 in this class.

- Lock & Daniel Jones, just don't see it....both of their analytical profiles don't sniff a lot of the recent QBs that came out: 2016-2018.

- Ryan Finley & Stidham, doubt these two are even mentioned in the early rounds.

- Was definitely intrigued by Tyree Jackson, as someone already mentioned him in this thread, but it looks as if he's going to try and be a Grad Transfer for a bigger program...maybe.

- If I'm taking a chance on a QB this year it's probably going to be: Haskins, Grier, and maybe even Murray if he comes out but as of today, I'm staying away from Lock, Jones, Finley, Stidham. Unless the value is too good to pass up or something.

Haskins finished the year off being incredibly productive, and it'd be hard to believe that with Meyer leaving...and the potential to be a top 10 selection, that he wouldn't declare.

The only thing you'd have to consider is, is his 1 year of experience enough to be sold on him? We've seen it with Cam and Trubisky recently...but if Haskins goes to an offensive-minded team, he could shoot up 2QB/SF draft boards.

not a fan of Lock or Grier, haven't seen Jones yet. No one has mentioned Easton Stick yet. I think he's my guy, he's like Mullens but with an NFL arm and +athleticism

Supposedly Stick (NDSU) had a rough start to the East/West Shrine Game, Rypien (Boise) is looking good per Twitter.

Tyree Jackson (Buffalo) declared and is going to be in the Senior Bowl...nice spotlight for a small-school prospect...we'll see how he does.

My Prelim Rankings today:

- Haskins
- Murray - who knows if he goes day 1 or day 2...if he goes day 2...I'd probably put him on the same level as Grier.
- Grier - media out there have Lock/Jones going before him...if they actually do...what happens to his draft stock/prospects.
-----------------------
- Lock/Jones - maybe, maybe I'd take a chance on these guys: 1. if they are drafted highly (for some reason) 2. if I'm desperate for a QB
-----------------------
- Finley/Rypien/Stick/Jackson - could be interested as a late-round rookie pick flier dependent on the depth chart they go to.
