Amari Cooper Comp and General Outlook

Postby closports » Tue Dec 30, 2014 11:05 am

So, from everything you read on Amari, it seems like he's everything you want in a WR with maybe fractional points deducted for lack of ideal size, lack of burner-type speed, and lack of elite-level physicality.

I'd like to hear some opinions regarding what kind of NFL player represents a good comp. Who else is the "good-great at everything but not quite Julio/AJ level prospect"?

Further, would you put any caps on his ceiling? Do these "nitpicky" faults of his prohibit or materially reduce the chance that he can enter the elite echelon of fantasy WR?

By all accounts, he has insatiable work ethic which I feel will help him overcome the fact that he is not supersized nor does he have track speed. Not in the Julio class; more a Blackmon type of prospect in my eyes. Does everything well. Think he has a high floor and a higher ceiling than people give him credit for. As far as upside is concerned, I prefer Parker or Funchess. If my team is eyeing a technician and safe number one, I think Cooper is your guy. Can fit on most teams in most schemes and be quite long-term leader of a passing game.

I think a good comparison is Sammy Watkins. Both are very good athletes, but not elite. Similar size and make big time plays.

I agree. From what college tape I've watched of the two, Watkins is a good comparison. Coming out of college, Sammy showed better burst than Cooper. Cooper looks like he has the better hands of the two. To me, there appears to be some real similarities in their playing style, and they both show the "my ball" attitude.
