I need a future QB opinion

Postby Silverado » Wed Jul 16, 2014 8:21 am

Who do you think would translate into a better NFL QB option.
Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty?

Obviously watching them this season would go a long way to determining this answer. Unfortunatly I don't have the option of waiting and watching.

Winston, Mariota and Hundly are also irrelevant as they are long gone out of this equation.

Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated.

Hackenberg for me. You'll have to wait a bit longer, but Petty is old, and I like Hackenberg's talent level more anyway. Sucks you can't wait and watch this year, but Hackenberg for me if you're picking now.

With Winston, Mariota, and Hundley already taken in our devy draft last year, Hackenberg went almost two full rounds before Petty in our recently completed 2014 devy draft (2.1 vs. 3.11 respectively).

Winston was taken in your 2013 devy draft? That is one astute move, most people had never heard of him and he hadn't seen the field at the college level. What other players has that owner snapped up? I would like to add them to my watch list.

Well, your hardcore college football fans and devy players had heard of him, and at the point of our draft he was taken, you are banking almost solely on potential. Winston just paid off for this particular owner. I took Thomas Tyner in the same draft before he had ever taken a snap and now he is a consensus top-5 pick. You just watch high school film and hope what your eye sees translates to the college level.

Each year as the talent pool is thinned out, more and more college freshmen are taken before they ever see the field. Volatility is high, but the payout can be huge in relation to their initial price. Similar to stock market IPOs.

That's kind of in the same situation with these qb's that I'm in. That's why I posted the original question.
This league is a 20 teamer. It was 18 for years, and all good owners. I was an expansion team, yadda, yadda, yadda.
But it's a salary cap, contract, idp, auction league. With a 2 player devy draft every year. Now you can imagine how much a good QB, even a starting one is worth in a league like this with 20 teams. Heck, Mike Glennon was a stud last year, just because he could start.
So when the devy's come around. You really try to nail a qb, even if you sit on him.

That's a great call with the age. I hadn't even thought of that yet.

Yes I think Hackenberg it is for me.

Hackenberg. Petty has accuracy issues.

He's older I grant you but he's a 23 year old senior. That's not old for a QB. It's not like we're talking Brandon Weeden here.

No, but historically speaking the younger QB's out of college tend to be better.
