Ranking the 2014 RB's (pre-draft)

Postby Doggie » Fri Apr 11, 2014 9:27 am

I didn't see a thread for ranking the 2014 RB's prior to the draft, so I thought we should start one.

Which RB's have you studied and how do you have them ranked as of now?

The standard is the standard.

Sankey
hyde
hill

I think Sankey is not only the best rb in this draft but overall best player regardless of position

I guess I am in the minority here when I don't see much when watching Sankey. I find he runs really weakly and easily gets taken down with arm tackles.

1. Hyde
2. Hill
3. Mason
4. Sankey
5. Sims
6. West
7. Seastrunk
8. Williams

No in any order, but my favorites this year are:

Hyde
Sankey
Crowell
Hill
Sims
Mason
West
Seastrunk

I know it may be dynasty sacrilege.. but for me, landing spot comes into play (a lot) with RB's more so than any other position.

Anyone else feel the same?

Situation for RB's are far more sensitive than say WR's. Usually only 1 RB on the field at a time so either the rookie plays or he doesn't. I do take situation into account for most guys, and it does slightly change my draft rankings, but only in smaller rosters does it make a huge impact.

I think situation matters insofar as if you need immediate help maybe it would sway just a bit ... but I am drafting the guys I deem most talented even if they go to philly or KC or anywhere else that might have an entrenched starter . Luckily none of my 4 dynasty teams is in a desperate situation to be forced to take a situation over a talent. If I like say mason and he goes to the niners , I would draft him at the same slot even w/ gore hunter & lattimore on the roster . Talent will mean a helluva lot more when it comes trading time than someone of mediocre talent in a great situation because a bit of failure from someone unqualified will lead to that guy being replaced like daniel thomas did . Thomas was in a golden situation and failed because he runs too long one 1 place , so phins drafted miller then gillislee who was a hot name last year agfter the draft and now you can get him for a half eaten stick of skunk jerky . Now the phins appear to draft another guy this year .... all this could just be a miami problem but more than likely its a lack of talent problem .
draft the player situation be damned 99% of the time

I'll throw my 2 cents out there and go against the grain:
Devonta Freeman
Jeremy Hill
Lache Seastrunk
Carlos Hyde
Bishop Sankey
Raijon Neal (as a sleeper pick)

I'm not going to talk about Freeman. Suffice to say he is my top back that I've reviewed.

Jeremy Hill has some serious talent. Too bad he's a headcase. LSU runs a pro style offense, so we already know how Hill will do in single back sets with the QB under center. He isn't the fastest guy in town, but should be a good power back in the NFL.

Seastrunk played in a spread offense which makes the analysis more sketchy. He is very explosive and very fast. He shows the ability to run into a pile and explode out the other side. Unfortunately, he is old and has not learned pass protection.

Hyde isn't fast enough to take runs outside and turn the corner in the NFL. His game tape between the tackles is okay but not spectacular. He is solid in the passing game, though. So could be a good three down back in the right situation.

Sankey is fast and can catch the ball well. His pass protection needs work, but I expect that to be fixed in his first year or two at the next level. I don't see him breaking any tackles, however. Sometimes it looks as if my grandmother could bring him down. To be fair, she was a very tough woman.

Surprised Mason is so low across the board. Good news for me.

Hyde
Mason

Hill
Crowell
Seastunk

Freeman
Sankey
West

Situation is pretty important at rb so it'd hard to rank but that's what I'd go with right now.

I'm normally a big talent over situation guy, but i think that this draft is such a crapshoot at rb, that for once it really is going to come down to situation, there are a lot of guys that i kind of like but don't love. But if I had to put them in order pre draft I would probably go like this.

Tre Mason
Charles Sims
Carlos Hyde
Lache Seastrunk
Ka'Deem Carey
Isaiah Crowell
Bishop Sankey

Terrence West
Jeremy Hill
James Wilder Jr
