Pump the brakes !

Postby BwK » Mon Mar 03, 2014 2:15 am

We all love draft time because we can only imagine how each of these guys are going to be great NFL players. I have even heard this may be the deepest draft in 10 years. Well 10 years ago 7 wr and 3 rb went in the first round:

Larry Fitzgerald
Roy Williams
Reggie Williams
Lee Evans
Michael Clayton
Michael Jenkins
Rashaun Woods
SJax
Chris Perry
Kevin Jones--edited

Todays college studs don't always turn out to be tomorrows NFL stars.

Good call bwk. I just got big into football within the past few years so the only notables on that list that I see are Fitz and SJax. Were any of those other guys worth the pick?

Great list. Some of those guys had good rookie seasons and still flamed out:
Michael Clayton
Lee Evans
Kevin Jones

Is there anywhere to go back and look at the top prospects of previous draft with their rankings as far as dynasty league drafts go?

Good catch! All is not totally lost as eli, rivers and big ben were also in that draft. My point being though that the 04 draft was wr heavy and not much to show 10 yrs later....Welker was an udfa from this draft.

2009 WRs in the 1st:

Darrius Heyward-Bey
Michael Crabtree
Jeremy Maclin
Percy Harvin
Hakeem Nicks
Kenny Britt

Heyward-Bey the only on that really "busted". The rest have dealt with injuries and/or poor attitude.

Interestingly enough, besides DHB who was just a bust, the rest have all had at least one thing holding them back. Crabtree, Maclin and Havin missed an entire season with injuries, Britt has attitude issues, and who knows what's wrong with Nicks. But aside from Britt, that latter group have all showed great promise.

Chris Perry - highly touted rb prospect that fell on his face and screwed a lot of owners that bought into the hype too soon. By all accounts he looked exceptional - but wasn't. Perry was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round (26th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut at the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 3, but he played only two games in his rookie season with the Bengals due to injuries.

Perry played in the 2005 season, complimenting Pro Bowl running back Rudi Johnson. Perry finished the 2005 season with 279 rushing yards along with 51 receptions for 328 yards and two touchdowns. His 51 receptions were the most by a Bengals running back in one season since James Brooks caught 54 passes in 1986.[citation needed]

Perry fractured his leg in the 11th game of the 2006 season, ending his season. On August 27, 2008, the Bengals cut running back Rudi Johnson from the team, solidifying Perry as the starter for the 2008 season. Perry was released after the season on April 27, 2009.

Btw - this draft topic / situation happens about every year at this time. No rookie pick - not even the 1.01 is a guaranteed lock to be elite.

LUCKY s.o.b.
He was a beast on my Franchise team in Madden 09. Ran for 2000 yds regularly and I even simulated the games (but I think he was racking up 35+ carries a game). As a Bengals fan though, he was tough to watch go down in flames...

16 Team, PPR
(1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 3 FLEX)
QB: J. Cutler, M. Mariota, M. Cassel, C. Henne, A. McCarron, D. Fales
RB: J. Bell, F. Gore, R. Bush, D. Williams, R. Helu, L. Dunbar, J. Allen, K. Williams, C. Artis-Payne
WR: J. Jones (ATL), J. Nelson, A. Hawkins, C. Johnson (MIN), A. Robinson, R. Randle, K. Thompkins, B. Ellington, H. Douglas, D. Harris, M. Campanaro, J. Hardy, J. Saunders, D. Moore, I. Blakeney, T. Lippett
TE: C. Clay, A. Quarless, A. Sefarian-Jenkins, J. Cumberland, W. Saxton

Draft Picks: 2016 2 3rds, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th
