Jerick McKinnon

Postby the_lung » Mon Feb 24, 2014 12:14 pm

From: http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=9469
- How impressive was Jerick McKinnon’s workout yesterday? Its likely to improve his draft stock anywhere from two-to-three rounds. This morning sources told me they feel McKinnon has cemented himself as a fourth round pick and could break into the third frame. A few teams now rate McKinnon as the fifth running back on their boards.
Seriously?!? The guy played quarterback in college!

The dude is a almost as athletic as Michaels last year. Curious to see him play RB full time though and if he can catch passes. Wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him.

So, I think I'm starting to develop a serious mancrush on McKinnon and am considering building my draft strategy around a plan of scooping him up in the 2nd or 3rd round. That being said, from the (admittedly limited) tape I've watched of him, he doesn't seem to be much of a tackle breaker. He seems to go down on first contact a lot more than I'd like.

Anyone else noticed this, or am I imagining it?

In film I noticed the same thing. It's the QB instinct in him. He is a faster shoelace to me.3rd round FF rookie flyer.
I only play in 16x53 with 10+ taxi size leagues with full IDP. All are PPR and most value return yardage. So my opinions may be skewed To these deep roster leagues.

Dynasty Fantasy is not a game, it’s a full time hobby.

Yeah, after watching a bit more tape, I'm not going to end up with McKinnon. My gut was right - Guy goes down on first contact way too much.

Am I missing something. Other than his good combine numbers there's not much reason to really like him. He's only got one video on youtube and you can't really tell much about him.

He played QB in a triple option system at an FCS school for years, there isn't going to be much tape on him at all. I think even his staunchest supports wouldn't advocate him until the early-3rd area of rookie drafts. I think his measurables are great bordering on elite, he impressed me versus Florida, and I think he'll have a special teams role right away to keep his roster spot while he potentially learns the nuances of the RB position at the NFL level.

What gave me pause with McKinnon is reading that a couple NFL teams talked to him about converting to CB, which is not too good unless you play IDP.
Team #1: 12 team, (1 QB 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex, K, DEF), PPR (0.5/1/1), 22-player roster

QB: Newton, Foles, Carr
RB: Hill, TRich, Taliaferro, A Williams, D Williams
WR: AJ, Gordon, Benjamin, M Bryant, Jennings, C Hogan, Austin, Dobson, Janis, D Carter, C Washington
TE: Graham

Team #2: 12-team, (1 QB 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex, K, DEF), PPR (0.5/1/1), 25-player roster

QB: Ryan, Bridgewater
RB: Forte, Ellington, Forsett, Hill, Bush, Taliaferro, Cunningham
WR: Megatron, Julio, Gordon, A Johnson, VJax, CPatt, Colston, D Baldwin, C Hogan, Charles Johnson
TE: Gronk, Witten
IR: C Palmer, K Moreno, T Gaffney

I'd play DB if I were him. He's got bob sanders-like messurables and there no money to gain playing RB.

I've read that he played some DB early on in college. Dude is a footballer, just needs some coaching.
Likely practice squad-bound year one (as an RB) but I'm intrigued long term.

Just watched a YouTube video on this guy. Looks to me like he tries to fight through the contact but gets tackled. This is huge because it's not a matter of effort or tear of contact, but probably more because he is playing QB and does not have a running start like RB's are supposed to. He takes the handoffs right behind the center, runs forward and gets wrapped up and brought down a lot. Not much momentum or space. I'm starting to really like this guy. Could be a serious sleeper especially catching check down from Teddy Bridgewater.
