E.J. Manuel

Postby NewtonsArmy » Thu Jan 31, 2013 2:37 pm

What is everyone's opinion on E.J.?

To me he seems like a "perfect" qb to fit into the new read-option system teams are going to now in the NFL. He may be a little inaccurate at times, and makes some poor decisions, but he still makes plays.

Another aspect of his that i love is the fact that he's 6'5 240, and is built much better to sustain the hits that a guy like RGIII may not be able to take for very long.

With that said, what is everyone's take on him and where he may go in a dynasty draft?

I agree and think he is an under the radar guy in this years draft that could end up being a decent player. I haven't seen him listed in anyone's top 6 or 7 QB's so I would imagine in a rookie only draft he wouldn't be selected in the 3 rounds right now... that could change based on combine, NFL etc.

From watching him play, and reading the few "draftnicks" or "scouts" opinions that I value, I think ultimately Manuel's value comes down to situation. He's raw, and needs work. But as you mentioned, he's an athletic freak, and a guy players will follow. If he can go somewhere with a coaching staff that can develop and refine him, he could be very good. If not, he's a journeyman backup.

I just can't figure out by watching highlights if he reminds me more of a more athletic Jason Campbell, or a pre-injury Dante Culpepper...

He's not an instinctive runner. I definitely see Jason Campbell.

FSU fan here... EJ just isn't "instinctive" period from everything I saw. The thing with EJ is that he was a starter for multiple years, so how can he still be "raw"?

On FSU messge boards we can't even figure out whether the issue was with EJ or with our coaching staff just being unable to "coach" him properly... I know what the stats say, but watching any FSU game against a decent opponent one could always point to numerous head-scratching moments from EJ.... I wish him the best, but unless he goes someplace that plans on just handing him the keys to a great offense? I'm probably going to shy away from him...

I'm Enamored with EJ Manuel. If he goes to a team where he gets the chance to compete for the starting job, how early would you take him? I'm really liking everything I'm hearing and seeing about him, plus I'm an FSU fan. I'm currently picking at #19 out of 20 teams. How much do you think I guy would have to move up to get him? Is anybody else feeling the way I am about him?

Picks - 2.10, 3.10, 4.10, 5.10

Perhaps you missed the part about it being a 20 team league....

Situation will play a lot into his fantasy draft slot, but in a 20 team league, depending on other factors, like contracts and salaries in your dynasty league, I'm sure at least 4 and possibly 7 QBs will be gone by pick #19 - again, depending on how your league mates draft. Even my 16 team leagues go QB crazy in the first round.
