Why?

Why is O. J. Howard not the 1.05. OR even Engram? With RB being so short term and WR talent on the low end, these TEs that can ball should be ahead of everyone besides Mixon, arguably. Anyone with me here?

Because TE is not a position that returns on investment for a couple years usually. Look at what Austin Hooper did over his entire rookie season. And he was the 2nd best prospect in 16, rated by some as neck & neck with Henry.

Ebron was a 1st round pick, has flashed fantastic talent at times, and yet is still not a reliable weekly starter at the position. He was a 1st round pick in rookie drafts.

TE in general, unless you have a *healthy* Gronk, Reed, or maybe Kelce now, is simply not a position where an above average talent gives you a big positional advantage.

If I have the 20th best RB starting, I have a much better player than the average RB on waivers or at the end of my bench. If I'm starting the 20th best TE, he's probably fresh off the waiver wire. Im not sure if this is being written very coherently, it's 1am here. But in short, TE is never a position where one should invest super highly in.

Since this TE class is so deep, it makes even more likely that none will go in top half of 1st round in most drafts. Owners will figure they can wait and take the TE4 or TE5 in early 3rd. Guys like Hodges, Butt, Leggett, or Everett would be better value in 3rd than OJ at 1.05.

no one had Henry over Howard last year, but now people think Henry is a top 5 TE. I haven't done TEs yet but in a devy I would currently have OJ ahead of guys like Ford, Dupre, Foreman and Kamara that some have at #5.

Are we talking TE premium? Otherwise, no way. If its TE premium, single QB league, than depending on landing spot I could see a mid to late first round pick on OJ Howard or Engram. But this is a historically deep TE class IMO and plenty of other options who could fall and be great values. Jake Butt is going to be a forgotten man with injury, likely no measurables or hype at combine and will fall in NFL draft due to injury so just one of several great values later in a rookie/startup draft.

1.05? Not sure how you pass on mixon or mccaffrey there. Taking Howard at 1.07 over ross, juju, foreman, or kamara seems reasonable.

I like Mixon, Ross and Juju ahead of the TEs. I have Howard, Engram, McCaffrey and Foreman all in a bigger tier that starts at 1.08 and goes well into the second round. This is an interesting draft, it's so deep.

Absolutely. Guys like Njoku, Engram, Everett, and maybe even Howard, will likely be available in the 2nd rounds of drafts. Assuming 12 team leagues.

Well depending on when Mixon gets drafted he is easily passable at 1.05. And not everyone is in love with the "Swiss Army" type players like McCaffrey because they don't have a defined role which can lead to inconsistency.
