Dominator Ratings WRs through week 5

Postby HawkeyeState » Wed Oct 05, 2016 4:29 pm

Hey all, I've been compiling Dominator Ratings leading up to the draft in 2015 and did it again last year.
I decided to try and be more on top of it this year and update as we went through the season and figured maybe someone on here might be interested in them.
For those who don't know.
Dominator Rating is a metric made famous/created by playerprofiler.com
It's a measure of % of team yards and TDs

Playerprofiler on average has taken into March or early April to update dominator ratings for college prospects so I know for my own early research it's nice to have ahead of time. I've found I am usually within 1% of the final rating and I would say about 70% of the time I'm dead on their final number.

Cortland Sutton 54.2%
Mike Williams 18.9%
Juju Smith 48.7%
Corey Davis 47%
Malachi Dupre 8.4%
Jordan Villamin 3.2%
James Washington 35.5%
KD Cannon 29.5%
Allen Lazard 23.5%
Cooper Kupp 31.75%
Taywan Taylor 27.8%
Derrick Willies 7.8%
Chris Godwin 29.3%
Travis Rudolph 27.8%
Damore'ea Stringfellow 15.2%
Jehu Chesson 8.4%
Amara Darboh 39.3%
Josh Malone 34.2%
Isaiah Ford 33.9%
Ricky Seals-Jones 6.7%
Josh Reynolds 36.4%
Jerome Lane 26.4%
Kenny Golladay 49.5%
Travin Dural 23.4%
Artavis Scott 9.3%
DeAngelo Yancey 28.3%

If their are major guys missing please point them out and I can add them.

Thanks for the data, very interesting! Do you have one for Trenton Irwin? He seems to have started slow but picked up some speed the past two weeks. And what about Evan Engram? He's basically a WR anyway! Oh and St. Brown would also be intriguing. Thanks!

I prefer to focus on draft eligible prospects because they are the ones closest to being on our rosters barring a Devy league.
Also, if you expand this metric to younger players, you run the risk of researching guys who play only a little as freshman and maybe catch 20 passes for a couple hundred yards or something and having a really low % but that low number doesn't really reflect their true talent.

But since you asked specifically for guys no big deal at all!

St. Brown currently has a 37.9%
Trenton Irwin has a 14.4% (and that's even with a very low passing offense)
Evan Engram has a 27.7%

Engram is an interesting one. He's a TE, but as you and we all know, he's essentially a slot WR, he hardly ever blocks.
The reason he's interesting is because his Dominator Rating is calculated using the same methods as a WR. But, his numbers compared to his peers will be much better. Most TEs don't see near as much volume as he does, so his numbers will look eye popping compared to other TE prospects and middle of the pack/lower 1/2 compared to WRs.
Hopefully Engram can continue to be their leading WR, for context, Hunter Henry had a 20.1% DR for his college career.

Absolutely amazing stiff hawkeye, instant fan here, this kinda data is so rare yet so oh so valuable to true devy leaguers!

St. Brown is in a class of his own IMO, only a soph but the burst jumps off the page and combined with the size, oh man. Whalen called it early! Time to go till the '18 draft but looking like the top wideout now.

Irwin has disappointed so far for me but I haven't reviewed tape. As you said run heavy offence but I expected more, again another Whalen fav so looking forward to his evaluation, he certainly has picked up the pace.

Engram is an animal, he's a huge piece of that ole miss offemce, would love to see him and swag connect again in the NFL, so fluid. He's gonna be a major weapon wherever he goes.

Great stuff hawkeye and thanks again!

There isn't necessarily a benchmark.
It's simply a tool in the toolbox to use to evaluate players.
There are plenty of examples of guys with low dominator ratings breaking out and being good in the NFL. But there are more examples of if guys can dominate in college, they have a pretty good chance to turn that into being a good NFL player and in our interest fantasy players.

For Context: Any value for a WR over 45% is considered extraordinary. Mike Evans had a 30.2% (49th percentile). Just happened to be who I looked up lol.

Anything over 40% is considered extraordinary for a RB (Leveon Bell had a 45.1% DR but that is 94th percentile).

For TEs anything over 30% is extraordinary. Gronk had a 19.1% DR (57th percentile)

Ya I guess what I was wondering is what is considered "good" and what is "bad"

Im guessing there is a point where guys are less likely to translate to the next level

I was reading a draft primer from somebody yesterday (can't remember who), but he was REALlLY high on Kupp. Called him one of the safest, sure thing prospects for next year amongst all positions, defense included. I get it was a little on the bold side than just saying an easy answer like Fournett, Garrett, etc., but he was very confident he will have a long and successful career. I have watched a good amount of him and he looked good, even against Marcus Peters, but why is he not talked about more? Besides the small school/overall level of competition. Are we viewing him as a third rd rookie draft, unless a great situation becomes him?

Yep!

I think I referenced it in my first post of this thread, but the rating was originally from that website and is a metric I like to use personally so figured it would be cool to get in season updates.

Now that we are in full draft process they have final numbers on playerprofiler.com for you to review
