James Washington

Postby wildabeast49 » Wed Jun 08, 2016 3:38 pm

Can we get some discussion going on him. I havent seen a ton of real film on him outside of highlight reels, but man does he seem to be a walking highlight.
Great track pedigree (state champ in 200m and triple jump)
All around athlete(tennis, basketball, football and baseball)
I have yet to see enough to know his route running chops but he has great hands and explosion.
10 team, .5 ppr dynasty
QB: Brady, Wilson
RB: Fournette, cook, mixon, Ajayi, Gordon, Ware, Joe Williams, Hunt, Martin
WR: Evans, TY, Dez, Sammy, Coleman, Diggs, Ross, White, Fitz
TE: Watson, Eifert, Bennet

PPR 12 team superflex, limited devy (1 per year) heavy return yardage
Cousins, Rivers, Kizer
Fournette, Zeke, Mixon, mcCaffrey, Joe Williams, Mcnichols, Mack, Martin
Cooper, Evans, Watkins, Coleman, Diggs, Martavis, Chad Williams, Parker
Henry, Rudolph, Hodges

Same here. I've seen very little of him in action, but from the very little I've seen he looks pretty intriguing. Definitely interested to see how he does in 2016. His jump from 2014 to 2015 was impressive and significant across the board in basically every category of WR production. Kinda get a bit of a Brandin Cooks feel with how he profiles.

One thing I found very impressive was his major: you don't really see too many CFB players majoring in mechanical engineering lol.

I just drafted him in my devy league. I really like his "catch radius" and he's an all around athlete. Honestly, he reminds me of obj, but obj was a better route runner.
12 Team Devy league .5ppr start: 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1Flex, 1 D/ST, 1K (25 man roster)
QB: Roethlisberger, Mariota
RB: D Murray, Henry, Dalvin Cook, L. Murray, Doug Martin, R. Mathews, Jennings, Artis Payne, Drake, Zenner
WR: A Brown, OBJ, D Adams, D Thomas, Doctson, Strong, Justin Hardy
TE: Kelce, Walford, Cook, Crocket Gilmore
Devys: Kalen Ballage, James Washington, Trenton Irwin
2 2018 1st and 2 2018 Devy picks
D/ST: Don't matter
K: Don't matter

12 Team Super Flex TE Premium .5ppr start: 1QB, 3WR, 2RB, 2 TE, 1SuperFlex, 1DEF/S (25 man roster)
QB: Mariota, Tyrod Taylor, Garoppolo, Desean Watson\
RB: L Murray, P Perkins, K. Dixon, Gio, Rob Kelley, CJ Procise, T. West, Kamara, Joe Williams
WR: Evans, Hopkins, ARob, Lockett, M. Mitchell, Moncreif, Sanu, Mike Williams
TE: Ertz, Henry, Njoku

Honestly I think he has a chance to separate himself from the field as the best WR in the draft. Yes Smith-Schuster is a very solid prospect, but Washington brings explosive athleticism, very good hands, high pointing ability, and solid route running. Definitely needs to improve on his route running, but for me he has the combination of dynamic playmaking ability and athleticism to become a dynamic playmaker in the NFL. A great pro comparison is Josh Gordon.

For those of you looking for some tape of Washington I made a cut up of him against Oklahoma of last year.

Thanks for that cut up, my quick take aways (one watching) are that he looks very explosive off the line, tracks the ball very well, smoked an nfl prospect at cb in Sanchez continuously and had some awful quarterbacking.

Your welcome. Yeah definitely a better route runner than I imagined him to be. Does a good job of snatching it away from his body, but did have a couple of drops. Terrible QB situation like you said. Sells his routes with head fakes and what not. Just more refined than I imagined him to be. Reminds me a little bit of Boldin, but maybe faster.

he has a lot more speed than Boldin, State champ in the 200m, I dont know any Boldin 200m times but we can safely assume he wasnt beating anyone ever in sprints.

Watching this cut up and I dont see the player everyone else sees. Doesnt separate down the field all that well for as explosive as I have heard him be called. Sanchez was in his hip pocket everytime he ran a GO route against him. He caught 2, one he had to come back on and looked like offensive PI and the other Sanchez slipped and Washington went up and got it uncontested.

Decent in the short to intermediate routes but not all that great. Can be lazy in and out of his breaks. Awesome on dig routes and quick slants but thats about it.

Has the upside for sure, but he is likely a mid round guy at this point

I agree about the rounded off routes but i think he separates very well and you may be failing to take into account how often he has to slow and wait on an underthrow, hit in stride he pulls away from defenders often. You can see it more regularly outside of that game

From this clip...

1:31- doesnt separate down the field or when he breaks on his route
2:36- Sanchez is with him stride for stride. Looked to me that Washington pushed him down when coming back to the ball. Either way, no separation down the field at all
4:49- Sanchez is in his hip pocket again and slips when they turn to jump for the ball. Great play by Washington, but didnt separate on the GO route

These were the only GO routes or deep routes I could see the entire play between WR-CB. All were when the CB was in press coverage on him. He made most of his catches in this game on dig routes or out routes, and those were mainly when the DBs were in zone coverage

Granted, there is still more I need to watch and it could be just a bad game from him. But as of now, I am not seeing the hype

I'm holding my breath until they come out and say it. If I was Rudolph I would declare because next years class is strong and he has the physical tools to be overdrafted in the 1st round. If Rudolph declares Washington declares so I personally doubt this will be the case.

Washington is staying in school. This is a good thing since I didn't get him in enough leagues leagues last year.
