Paxton Lynch

Postby robbie80robbie » Thu Dec 03, 2015 7:11 am

Just curious to see what the thoughts are on Paxton Lynch. To me he looks to be the next Big Ben, not just because of size, but mobility and arm strength. The issue that I have is my team (the browns) will probably end up with him if they end up with the number 1 pick. Does anyone think he is that good and worthy of a spot in a start up dynasty league (one with approx 20 spots)? Or is he going to be a waste because of the situation that he is in?
I have too many teams to list...

The top QB could go certainly end up in Cleveland, but SF is another real possibility. It is early to try making decisions based on predicted landing spots. On paper Paxton looks promising. He has improved in all key statistical categories each year, and he took a poor Memphis team and made them relevant. I have not watched much film yet, so no comments there.

Lacking any other information, I'd take the #1 rated rookie QB in a start-up as a bench guy. Absolutely would not bet my franchise on him, though.

Think he's more of a Flacco than Roethlisberger, but who knows?

He looked pretty awful against a below average Auburn team today, a day after Goff looked like the real deal. Obviously Lynch faced a slightly better defense but he still looked like hot garbage a day after Goff made all of his throws look easy.

He's got the highest upside in the draft while Goff is safer. Lynch has way better tools, he reminded me of Mariota. Goff seems destined to be the 15th best QB in the league, he's like Kirk Cousins with 10% more talent.

Does have some scouts comparing him to Big Ben. Mind you that is POTENTIAL. He is very raw and likely will need 2-3 years to truly develop but has the size, arm strength and athleticism to play in league. That being said, I usually pass on guys like this unless they are truly BPA at slotted rookie draft position AND have deep enough roster to hold for 2-3 years AND landing spot is favorable to allow him to learn position from solid veteran who will likely be gone in that 2-3 year window. Otherwise, I would rather pay for a solid mid to low end QB1 in a trade than just throw a dart at a player who will toil on my bench for 2-3 years and MAYBE help me in 2018.

I have Goff ranked higher based on watching his tape and following him since he was in HS. Can make all the throws, has good pocket presence. Not a finished product, but able to process large amounts of information based on how quickly he makes his reads. Goff to me is the safer of the two players but Lynch has probable higher potential upside if you are patient.
