Is it really necessary to vote on this every year?

How about a 12 hour clock for the draft? I know there are time zone differences but we have the ability to queue up players in MFL if you think you might be unable to check the site for over 12 hours. It’s 2018 I think almost everyone has a smartphone, tablet or laptop they can access the internet on.

If the 12 hour clock expires without a pick or trade the owner with the next pick should be allowed to make their selection.

We used to have a 24 hour clock... I've looked at the data and the draft moves just as fast without a clock as it did with one. It's July 9th... the draft will probably finish tomorrow or maybe Wednesday. Meanwhile, the draft in Tecmo hasn't even STARTED. We've got plenty of time, so while people get all anxious / annoyed during the draft if we get stalled on a pick for too long, there's really no reason to rush it.

Yes, we all have smartphones... no mine is not always in my hand. We had family in town all last week for my wife's graduation from nursing school. And I was in the pool / hanging out with family all day yesterday. The idea of interrupting my real life activities to make a pick in a fake football draft because some arbitrary clock is about to expire is nonsense.

I don't always know who I'm going to pick either... when I'm on the clock, sometimes I'm going back to film and doing a final bit of research, etc. before making my final decision. And if certain players are picked ahead of me, I may want to trade out. So I'm not just going to set a pre-draft list and settle for my 4th choice at that spot when I may prefer a trade. And sometimes trade negotiations take time.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a non-issue.

I suggest we cap UDFA contracts at 3 years (like the NFL does). There's a mad dash to sign UDFAs right after the draft (before the preseason starts and we start getting some tape of these guys on the field), but they shouldn't be eligible for 5 year deals at the league minimum salary (or close to it).

Eliminate 1 year contracts in FA. That’s really the only way to get these outrageous contracts under control.

Knowing you’re on the hook for more than a “no downside” one and done contract makes you think twice before throwing 50+% of your total salary at one player, which is about as unrealistic as you can get if we’re trying to model this league more like the NFL.

Just want to be clear, I’m not talking about anything in particular, just the overall state of FA the past few seasons.

I've been against it but I think including years in bidding would be a better solution than eliminating 1 year contracts.

Been saying the same thing for years...We are more like the CFL, than the NFL. One year contracts have there place, but the fransise tag #'s are screwed up now...

On a side note NFL teams DO NOT bid on a UFA to only are keep the competion in check. Unheard of, stupidest thing I've ever heard. You need to worry about your team rather than the the other team.

I'm not even sure what your point is here.... I'll worry about my team and you worry about your bids. People bid on whomever they choose and their intentions are irrelevant. Don't like it? Let em win the player and see what happens.

It's tricky to account for years with the bonus/straight set up.

A simple example... I'd argue a player would take a 3 year 9k bonus contract over a 3 year 10k straight contract.

Look to Bell and the Steelers for an example, all about the guaranteed money up front for Bell where the Steelers like to use rolling guarantees through roster bonuses etc. Average yearly value was important, but a secondary issue.
