2018 Rule change vote: Championship playoffs / conferences

Postby TrueDawg » Wed Jun 20, 2018 7:50 am

Should we keep the divisions but get rid of the conferences?

Currently, the 4 division winners make the playoffs, plus the highest scoring team in each conference.

If we get rid of conferences, the 4 division winners would obviously still make the playoffs, plus the two highest scoring teams overall (instead of one per conference).

Yes... this ensures the best 6 teams make the playoffs and avoids a better team from one conference missing the playoffs because we can only have one wild card per conference now.

Your wording in the final sentence could be confusing but yes.

Conferences = completely irrelevant nothingness. Too late for the title I literally would have won last year had we changed sooner, but no reason to delay any further.

I tried to reword it. Referring to the below where team A is the highest scoring non-division winner in the NFC... under the current rules, teams A and B make the playoffs. Under the proposed rule, there would be no conferences so teams A and C make the playoffs.

NFC
Team A scores 900

AFC
Team B scores 1200
Team C scores 1000

This has received 11 of 16 "Yes" votes so it obviously can't be defeated, so I'm closing it.
