How do you rank the rookie lb class?

Postby Broncopain » Wed Jun 03, 2015 9:01 am

Just curious what you all think about this. Maybe a top five or so would be helpful

I don't understand the question.

Edit: OP has been adjusted. Now makes sense.

Top 5:
McKinnney - talent and situation
Paul Dawson - same
Stephone Anthony - usage
Denzel Perryman - projects to start

6th Man:
Shaq Thompson - uber-talent breaks into the top 5 when Thomas Davis is done

did not rank Beasley here because (as Breezy projects) he probably becomes DE
Shane Ray and Bud Dupree look to be in a battle for snaps, so no ranking for them here either

You only have 4 in the top 5. Guessing Kendricks is in there as well?

I'm ranking by whose ceiling I think is the highest:

Kendricks - think he's the most talented of this group. I don't a Mosley in this draft, but I think he'll be the most productive
Dawson - When I watch this guy's tape, I see a stud. He is also good in coverage. He's been knocked, but I'm shooting for the moon with him.
Anthony - Had him 3rd talent predraft and his draft spot had me really closely thinking of moving him to 2nd. My gut keeps Dawson up there.

-----------------------------------Tier Break --------------------------------------------

Perryman - 2 down thumper who will knock some heads in, but he's a liability in coverage. Luckily, he doesn't have competition, but that isn't a good long term argument.
McKinney - Another 2 down thumper. I just didn't jump off the tape for me.

doh, just realized I only ranked four. Bump Shaq up to 5. No Kendricks on the list.... sorry, not a good situation for him until Greenway hangs it up.

Errrrr, in linebacker years, Greenway could be there for a few. Not to mention that the fan base views him as a God, and that is worth a lot in the upper-Midwest.

He's going to play in the MLB spot ahead of Cole, so he should have an immediate impact.

I know this is an indirect response, but our rookie draft went in this order:
Kendricks at pick 15
Perryman 21
Anthony 22
Beasley 27
McKinney 30
Shaq 43
Dawson 45
Ray 47
Dupree 48
Jake Ryan 64
Kikaha 68
Kwon Alexander 73
Preston Smith 85
DJ Alexander 86

For me personally, the top 5 is Kendricks, Anthony, McKinney, Perryman and Shaq
I love McKinney and Perryman's lack of competition, but historically dont believe the roles they are taking have the impact that Kendricks and Anthony's does... Assuming they play the same roles as their predecessors.

Love Jake Ryan's spot, and nobody in front of him, but i also think Clay gets moved around alot this year and caps that value a bit. I certainly hope im wrong there, but i think they finally learned to switch it up

Kendricks - has it all, the instincts, coverage ability, tackling ability and in a good situation where he will be starting at ILB in 2015
McKinney - Has the coverage questions. But after that he is the most complete backer of the group. Excellent tackler and pursuits the runner like no one in the class. Also may be a sneaky option for 5 or so sacks.
Perryman - I feel like the situation is the only thing holding this dude back. Love his play as a great tackler and ball hawk. Like McKinney, some coverage questions, but he is more talented than his incumbents and could see him as a starter in fantasy leagues by midseason. It only takes Te'o or Butler to get injured.
Dawson - One of my favorites. People got perturbed by his bad combine scores and bad reputation for a lack of work ethic. Solid tackler, playmaker and ok in coverage. If/when he gets a consistent role on the Bengals LB core, he will be starting on many fantasy teams. And the Bengals front 4 creates a lot of tackling opportunities.
Anthony - Ok situation is good. 3 down backer right out of the gate on linebacking core lacking playmakers. But his talent? It's ok, but not as good as those listed above. His instincts are not good and his coverage ability is also meh. Tackling is sound, but again I'm skeptical that Anthony is ready to be a good fantasy contributor.
Beasley - Depends on the league. Big play, he goes above Perryman, but if not, he is below Anthony just based on how he will be used as a pass rusher. Could get 8+ sacks yearly, but will probably be around 40-50 tackles.
