My rankings and where they were drafted in our rookie draft (tackle heavy league)
1) Anthony (20th)
2) Kendricks (19th)
3) Dawson (65th) My pick!
4) Perryman (50th)
5) McKinney ( not drafted)
This was our first IDP rookie draft and since we only start 2 DL, 2LB, 2 DB, it's not surprising that some guys weren't drafted. Last year we had an independant IDP draft. This year, there was a big run on DL but lots of vets were still on the market. In 6 rds 9 DLs, 7 LBs and 5 DBs, were drafted. 19 RBs, 24 WRS were drafted if you want a OFF vs Def perspective.

Clay Matthews and Sam Barrington. I think Ryan will get playing time this season but it will not be consistent.lawilt wrote:he has no real comp to get one of the 2 ILB spotsBruiser wrote:and take over which starter's production?

Through OTAs Clay has still been getting plenty of reps at ILB and seems to be a role he will carry through the season. He will not play exclusively at ILB but will take several snaps per game at ILB. Like I said, Ryan should get snaps but it will not be consistent. I fully expect Clay to be at ILB on third down because it gives them a chance to bring in another pass rushing OLB, which is a much deeper group than ILB.lawilt wrote:bpatrick wrote:lawilt wrote:

Re: How do you rank the rookie lb class?
This matches my thoughts exactly. I might go between Dawson and Anthony after Kendricks, but McKinney is nowhere close IMO. I really would probably drop McKinney out of my top 5 and put in Shaq Thompson knowing he'd be a hold for a while. I just was not impressed with McKinney's tape. Looks like a nobody. Maybe i'm just a hater lol.growskey23 wrote:I'm ranking by whose ceiling I think is the highest:
Kendricks - think he's the most talented of this group. I don't a Mosley in this draft, but I think he'll be the most productive
Dawson - When I watch this guy's tape, I see a stud. He is also good in coverage. He's been knocked, but I'm shooting for the moon with him.
Anthony - Had him 3rd talent predraft and his draft spot had me really closely thinking of moving him to 2nd. My gut keeps Dawson up there.
-----------------------------------Tier Break --------------------------------------------
Perryman - 2 down thumper who will knock some heads in, but he's a liability in coverage. Luckily, he doesn't have competition, but that isn't a good long term argument.
McKinney - Another 2 down thumper. I just didn't jump off the tape for me.

Re: How do you rank the rookie lb class?
For dynasty or keeper purposes, I only have 2 targets. I was fortunate to nab Moseley last year so I am set at LB and don't need an immediate starter.
Kendricks - Zimmer defenses are sound and his LB"s get a lot of fantasy value (IMO). Is Zimmer going to be the coach in Minnesota for 3 to 5 years? I think so. Kendricks might not make an impact this year but they drafted him early to be an eventual star.
Jake Ryan - AJ Hawk left the Packers as the all time Packers tackles leader... and he was a horrible pass defender late in his career. Dom Capers defense puts the ILB in position to make a lot of tackles. Not a lot of sacks or "sexy" plays but a ton of tackles. I'm not worried about Clay because this is a 5 year projection and Clay probably won't be relevant in 5 years. (and I have Moseley so I don't need great stats in 2015).
As for the other guys, I can't make a solid opinion until I see how they are used in pre-season. OLB that don't get sacks or INT's are worthless. Even then, there needs to be a huge number of sacks/ INT to make up for the lack of tackles. Generally speaking most defenses have their ILB make the tough tackles while the OLB get the playmaking stats.
So here are my 2 targets this year. Just my humble opinion though.

Re: How do you rank the rookie lb class?
Reflection time: This was my first IDP/dynasty offseason. I had just one year under my belt when making these evaluations of the 2015 LB class.
Big whiff on Dawson over Kendricks. It seems I was not alone on the PJ hype train.

Just a guy who loves fantasy football - specifically defense.

Re: How do you rank the rookie lb class?
I went back and checked and on my draft board I had them (number of times I drafted them in parentheses):
2.06 Kendricks (1)
2.10 Anthony (1)
2.11 McKinney (3)
3.06 Shaq (0)
4.01 Dawson (0)
4.10 Perryman (0)
5.11 Hicks (0)
5.12 Ryan (0)
6.01 Kwon (4)
6.12 Ramik Wilson (1)
7.01 Damian Wilson (0)
This is how I had them in early May so I'm sure I didn't draft 100% by this board due to flashes in OTAs and offseason buzz that moved guys around. For some reason I was lucky and ended up with quite a bit of Kwon. I had Hicks, Ryan and Kwon bunched together as picks around the end of the 5th round. It's quite interesting that both Hicks and Kwon were viewed as late round guys (not just by me but by most people).
Here was my board this year at the start of May:
2.06 Reuben Foster (1)
2.07 Jarrad Davis (5)
2.11 Zach Cunningham (6)
3.11 Haason Reddick (0)
4.04 Raekwon McMillan (4)
5.01 Jalen Reeves-Maybin (5)
5.03 Alex Anzalone (4)
6.03 Jayon Brown (7)
6.04 Anthony Walker (1)
7.01 Kendell Beckwith (0)
7.03 Duke Riley (2)
UFA Ukeme Eligwe (6)
UFA Marquel Lee (7)
But since then I've found myself staying away from Foster and Beckwith, and I've picked up a bunch of LBs in post-draft waivers (mainly Eligwe, Lee, Jayon Brown). I guess I moved Reddick up a bit as well when it was communicated that he would play more inside, but generally people have been higher on him than what I have been so I haven't gotten him anywhere. But I've ended up with a ton of LBs so here's for hoping that this is a good year for LBs...

5.11 Hicks (0)
5.12 Ryan (0)
6.01 Kwon (4)
