So is all the jamar chaney hype officially transferred to the young mathews?

Rookie Casey Matthews is working in the base, nickel, and dime packages as the Eagles' starting middle linebacker. We're hesitant to anoint Matthews the starter just yet because his tape wasn't that impressive at Oregon, but first-year defensive coordinator Juan Gastillo seems to love him. In the nickel, it's been Matthews and SLB Jamar Chaney. Matthews is the lone dime linebacker. He's looking like a fantastic IDP sleeper.

Interesting, but I think Matthews may be too small to stay in the middle. I think Chaney is a better fit there and packs the punch that should be desired at the MLB spot. Matthews could be learning the middle because he'll back up that spot (and others), but I can't say for certain. FWIW, Matthews is listed at 6'1, 231. Chaney as a 2010 prospect was 6'1, 242.

I don't think Chaney or MAtthews are the long term solution, so I wouldn't get over invested in either.
