Help with my Safeties

Postby derekhiny » Wed Mar 20, 2019 7:34 pm

Hey guys (and gals). Looking for a little feedback on my safeties … If you all don't mind taking a second, please rank them. Then let me know if there is enough talent there to get by this year, or if I should be looking to make a move via draft or trade. To be honest, not super enthralled by the safety class this year, and I'm already going to have to devote some middle round draft resources to my DE's due to some looming position reassignments … but all opinions are encouraged and appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Basic format for DBs is start 2-3 / 2pts tackle / 1pt half tackle / 2.5pts pass defensed / 8pt INT

Jessie Bates
John Johnson
Bradley McDougald
Justin Reid
Clayton Geathers
Ronnie Harrison

1 - John Johnson III - has the makings of a long-term stud, both in real life and in fantasy.

2 - Ronnie Harrison - should be the starting SS in Jax for at least the next couple years.

3 - Clayton Geathers - solid real life player, but very good fantasy asset. Constantly hurt, however.

4 - Jessie Bates is a bit of fool’s gold when it comes to fantasy, IMHO. Got a ton of big plays that aren’t likely to repeat on a consistent basis, as well as an oddly high amount of tackles for a free safety. He’s at least a good enough real-life player so we know he will be an every snap player for a long time, but he’s more Haha Clinton Dix than he is Reshad Jones.

The rest could be starters for their squads in 19 and beyond, and be top-5 safeties, or get demoted to 2nd string and then cut next year.

I would rank them: Reid, then Whitehead, then McDougald

Thanks Lukky. Should I be looking to make a move, or can I piece together at least 2 each week that are decent enough to stand pat?

I’ll never tell you to not make a move, because sometimes trades just fall together for you, and same with the draft. But don’t go out and pay a 2nd for Shawn Williams, that sort of thing.

I would actually say I would be looking to sell off some if that was my group. I think Johnson, Harrison, geathers, plus a couple of the others would be enough and leave spots options plus some room for more chances. Mcdougald, bates, and Whitehead all could be seen as worth more than they really are and if you can get value for them do it
