Rookie Draft advice

Postby XclickX » Fri Jan 04, 2019 2:18 am

This will be my first idp rookie draft in 2019. My team was the top team with most points in our first season. Finished second in the playoffs so I pick 1.11. When should the “stud” defensive players go?

2- LB
2-DL
2-DB
1-Flex

1.2 per tackle
0.6 per assist
Sack 2
Pass Defended 1.2
INT 3
FF 2
FR 2
That’s basically all the stats we use. Defensive players ( other than DL) seem to average 8-11 points per week. DL other than Mack seem to score like 5-6 points on average.

Is Bosa going to be a player to consider in this format at the 1.11? Any advice is appreciated.

My suggestion might be unpopular but its my opinion.

I think Nick is going to be better than his brother to be honest. I don't know that i would spend a first rounder on him.

I feel that like his brother, he is going to be a top 5 defensive end however his health i would feel like could be an issue..like his brother.

This is a fairly deep draft for dline, especially if your playing in leagues like I do where they aren't valued very high. You could get one of the other guys who i feel might score more total points than bosa in a season because they are on the field..with a later pick.
I have too many teams to list...

Your league's IDP scoring is far too low to warrant spending even a 2nd on defensive players. The difference between a guy with 15 sacks and a guy with 3 is 24 points. That's a point and a half per week. I'm not spending a 1st rounder for the CEILING of 1.5 points per week over a waiver wire pickup.

Your league should consider sacks at 4-5 points and more points per tackle for DL if the idea is to make defensive players relevant.

Thanks! Makes sense. I’ll use my later rd picks for DL.

I agree with Wolfepack28. Your scoring simply doesn't value DL highly. 2 points for a sack is the lowest i've seen. No boost for QB Hits or TFL either. Overall they likely are not significantly impacting weekly results. I wouldn't both investing much draft capital for that minimal a benefit. If you want to look at it in the 3rd round, have at it, but otherwise, stock the shelf with offense, and make a deal for a veteran DL as a toss in or something.

Piling on. Unless a Bosa or Josh Allen or Devin White etc drops to the 3rd/4th round - ignore IDP in your rookie draft.

Piling on with everyone above. Your IDP scoring seems a little too low. I'd add QB hits and TFL at the very least. Maybe increase some of the points as well.

There is no way I would draft a DL at all. They score little to no points based on your settings. That position will probably score less points every week than any other position. Do not waste a rookie draft pick on that.

I don't know that I would draft a LB or DB either, but if I did it would have to be late in the draft and only because a player I really like has dropped too far.

I brought it up to add TFL and increase the value of sacks. Seems like with a league vote it will pass.
