Fred Warner Edit: Still Starting MLB according to reports.

Did he look as good as his stat line (He's sitting 25th overall in my 1/2 ppr league)?

I only saw pieces flipping through but he had one really nice tel slipping into the backfield and was around the ball a fair amount from the little I saw

I figure he's back to the bench if Smith returns this week.

Warner made a case to remain the starter alongside Foster when the second-year star returns to practice in a week. The 49ers head coach was asked if, given Warner's performance in Minnesota, that was the plan.

"I'm not sure yet," Shanahan responded. "That's still another week away. The way he played yesterday, it would be hard to get that guy off the field. He did a hell of a job yesterday in his first game. That was yesterday. We'll see how he does this week."

Shanahan said that Warner appeared to handle the communication duties of the MIKE linebacker well.

"I know the guys were very happy with how he communicated," he said. "The defense got guys lined up and made a lot of plays in the game too."

He is worth a stash and wait imo.

There is no way Malcolm Smith takes this man's spot imo, it is his now. He played great on sunday

IMHO, he absolutely looked as good as his stat line. A pleasure to watch yesterday.

Question - I have LVE and Rueben Foster. Do I hold LVE, or shed him for Warner? My league only starts one LB and an IDP Flex, and I am filling my LB with Telvin Smith.

Yes. I have to assume your wire is littered with talent if you can only start two LBs per week. I doubt I would ever carry more than 2 LBs at a time and LVE wont be helping you this year unless there is an injury to Lee or Smith. I dont blame you for wanting to keep Foster (though, I would prob trade him if possible and replace him with a guy on the waiver wire). But, def drop LVE for Warner and plug Warner in.

It was only one game, but his performance easily has him staying in the lineup IMO. That can change after Week 2, but he did himself well in Week 1 to get a leg up. His versatility only adds to that. Feels like the second best LB on the team one week in. Worst case, he’s increased his dynasty stock as a quality asset on a LB depth chart. Not necessarily an ‘under the radar’ type of guy anymore.

Reuben Foster is back this week. How do you think Fred Warner’s playing time will pan out? At least 90%? Does he stay in the middle or bump Malcolm smith off the weak side ?

Do you start Warner this week or take a week off and see how the playing time works out?

I would be incredibly surprised if Fred plays less than 90% of the snaps.

If you want to take a week off tho, just in case, I don’t think that’s a bad idea.

Its still early in the week but I just read this blurb:

"Warner may not start against the Chiefs on Sunday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Spin: With Reuben Foster trending towards playing on Sunday, Warner's starting position seems unsteady despite recording double-digit tackles in the first two games of the regular season. It's possible that San Francisco elects to move Warner to an outside linebacker role after Foster returns."

EDIT: I also just read that as of today, Shanahan told reporters he hadn't made a decision regarding his linebackers for this upcoming week (per Kyle Madson).

Sounds like a writer who doesn’t have much of a grasp on how football works.

Warner getting moved to WLB isn’t a problem, nor is it getting demoted. I don’t think anyone assumed he would stay at MIKE, but I do expect him to say in the starting lineup and on the field for 80-90% of the snaps.
