Where are you selecting IDPs in 2018 Rookie Drafts?

Postby Needalife » Fri Aug 03, 2018 10:56 am

Simple question... where are you selecting the top IDPs in the first 3-4 rounds of rookie drafts?

Also, which specific guys and in which order? Roquan vs Edmunds in particular

I think this depends A LOT on scoring. I generally see the top IDP players going in the middle to back end of round 1 in my IDP league because of the format of my league, but in other leagues where ID players don't score near what offensive players do this would be absurd.

In general, farily high scoring IDP with 2 point tackles, a boost for DL and the top guys in general scoring 15-16ppg. Hopefully that gives a sense. top guys... LB Wagner was around 16.6ppg, S Reshad Jones was around 15ppg, Cam Jordan was around 14.1ppg. They were tops at their positions. LB is definitely the strongest IDP position.

Even for my 2nd team in signature (extremely heavy IDP scoring and 10 IDP starters), I wasn’t willing to take Roquan until the mid-2nd. He obviously didn’t last that long (I think he went around 11-12 overall) but I got Leonard (my LB2 this class) at the end of the 3rd so I have no regrets.

The top LBs typically go mid/late 1st in my leagues, but today they went: 1.05: Edmunds, 1.06: R Smith; 1.12: R Evans. I think that this is the 1st time in 13 years of IDP that i have seen 3 LBs in the 1st round. Tackles are 2 pts & assisted tackles are 1 pt.

In league #1 in my sig, Roquan and Edmunds went 7 and 8, respectively. Which is about where the first LBs have gone off the board ever since our second rookie draft.

Tackles and assists are both worth 1.5 points each, plus 4 additional points for most "big plays". Usually, the top 8-10 LBs finish the season in the range of being a low-end RB1 (somewhere between RB9-RB12), and are valued almost as much. Plus we can start up to 6 LBs. It's pretty hard to win the league championship without a solid LB group.

I will not consider one before late 2nd this year.
But, probably because I'm in pretty good shape at LB & DL.

While we are all trying to chase the next Luke Kuechly - it is relatively easy to get a good performing LB most of the time, same with DB. I find DL harder to replicate.

Really depends on the league. If top defenders are even with a too rb or we and you start more defenders than offensive players, preferably around 50 percent more then I have no problem going mid 1st, if it was twice as many defenders as offensive guys as would actually make things even then I would say defenders could go anywhere.

If a top defenders score less than too offensive players and you only start the same number as on offense then I would say early to mid 2nd.

If you start less on defense than on offense I would say only as late dart throws

Just finished a draft in a league where top IDPs score on par with top RBs and WR. The top 16 scorers in this league last year were 13 QBs Todd Gurley, Leveon Bell and Alvin Kamara. . From 17-32 there were 4 QB, 6 LB, 1 S, 2 RB and 3 WR. This league has a couple of "plugged in" owners in the Dynasty writer/podcast community. Even still IDP drafting was not vigorous in the first couple of rounds.

1.12 T Edwards
2.07 Roquan
2.12 Derwin James
3.01 R Evans
3.04 D Leonard
3.05 M Davenport
3.09 M Fitzpatrick
3.11 D Ward

My IDP leagues are fairly high scoring, so I typically target the top LB early in the 2nd round, top S late 2nd or early 3rd. This year saw the 1st LB off the board at 1.10 and 2.02. Both leagues saw 4 defensive players gone in the first 20 picks, none to me! I'm usually one of the first to take a LB or S, but both of my teams are pretty solid at those positions right now so I went for the leftover value on the offensive side late in the 2nd (Gallup in both leagues). Wound up getting Vander Esch at 3.08 in one league and Derwin at 3.10 in the other, very happy with the value of both!

Smith went 1.5
Edmunds went 1.7 (My Pick)
Vander Esch went 1.9

This is about where I figured they would go in our league.

The first two are near lock LB'1s this season and Vander should be by next year. Smith and Edmunds have top 5-7 upside this season. We had 4 LB's last year average over 17 points per game so these picks were not reaches.

I ranked Edmunds as top fantasy LB with a 1.4-1.5 grade this draft in this league. Smith was one spot behind IMO.
