IDP Trade

My linebacking corps is not doing well, and neither is my stock of running backs, and I'm trying to formulate a trade that will help me better both positions. What do you think? I'll tell you that I hate giving up the pick at 1.08 and would rather land a running back some other way, but because we can start 3 RBs the trading market is tough. I also pick at 1.01, 2.08, 3.07 and 3.10 and would love to walk away with four rookie running backs. —Best, Steve

I give:
Alex Collins
1.08

I get:
McCoy
2.12
IDP LB Alex Ogletree

It's a 12 team IDP PPR. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE and 1 flex (RB/WR/TE); 2 DL, 3 LB, and 2 DB with 1 flex (DL, LB or DB). My team is:

QBs: Mariota, Roethlisberger, Alex Smith RBs: (Note: I hold the 1.01 and will take Barkley), Alex Collins, Mike Davis, Devontae Booker, De’Angelo Henderson, Malcolm Brown. WRs: Odell Beckham, Corey Davis, Larry Fitz, Ju Ju Smith-Schuster, Cooper Kupp, Josh Docston,
Kenny Britt, Carlos Henderson, Isaiah Ford, Jermaine Kearse TEs: Hunter Henry, Trey Burton, Shaheen. LBs: Jayon Brown, Zach Brown, B.J. Goodson, Mychal Kendricks, Patrick Onwuasor, Reggie Ragland, Ryan Shazier, Lawrence Timmons and Duke Riley.

What's not to like...upgrade at RB and a stud idp guy for a dart at 1.08

If Collins keeps the starting gig, he will average what - maybe 4 PPG less than Shady? And then in 1-2 years, when Shady is off to Jamal Charles/AP land (2016-present), Collins will be worth MUCH more.

I guess I don't see Collins as a long term answer, where as McCoy is pretty high, safe floor for another two seasons, is all. Thanks man for the reply

I tend to agree with the above, but the only concerning part for me would be if the Giants end up switching to a 3-4. Ogletree didn't have his normal type of season last year playing in a 3-4. If they stick with a 4-3, I think I like this deal and you'd have a chance to make a title run right away with how the rest of your teams looks, plus McCoy/Barkley at RB and Ogletree giving you 100 tackle and 25 assists.

My only worry is that I think Shady will see a fairly decent dip in production, dude should have a pretty heavy workload but the Bills lost two of their best offensive lineman from last year and now have AJ McCarron under center. Personally I'm a Tyrod fan but whether you hate him or like him he's clearly one of the best rushing QBs in the league and teams had to respect that, they won't with McCarron. Add to the that the veritable dearth of receiving talent on that team (either due to injury history/likelihood or lack of talent) and you're looking at an offense that teams will have no issue putting 8 in the box against on most plays. I'm not someone who cares a ton about age but McCoy will be 30 when the season starts and has seen a ton of usage over his career, giving him a big workload against stacked boxes all season can definitely become an issue.

I don't see Collins as a high value RB. Ravens do still have Dixon and Allen there and may draft a RB this year since the class is so deep.

I like the trade, although I'm a Shady homer

I think there is a very good chance McCoy is relevant longer than Collins. Don't see a special talent, just a filler RB there

McCoys game isn't based on speed, either. I believe he will be effective at least 3 more years, with his ability to avoid contact.
