My Linebackers

Postby SteveVolk » Sun Jan 28, 2018 4:57 pm

Just curious to get some advice on my linebacker corps in a start 3-4 LB, tackle heavy IDP league. This crew finished second overall in scoring at the position this year in my league, which was a great finish, but how do these guys project for 2018? FYI, I do not have a pick in this year's draft till the 3.10. Any advice—targets to pursue who might be gettable in a trade or out there on the waiver wire? Thanks in advance.

LINEBACKERS
Zach Brown
Wesley Woodyard
B.J. Goodson
Reggie Ragland
Mychal Kendricks
Jayon Brown
Ryan Shazier
Patrick Unwuasor
Lawrence Timmons
Duke Riley

Zach Brown - He will be a 3-down LB for someone this year, and should be an LB1 for the next 2-3 years

Wesley Woodyard - He just had his best year, and it was very good, but he's always been a part-time player for a reason, IMO

B.J. Goodson - I thought he looked genuinely good in that first week against Dallas. Not just on paper, but he was strong against the run and all over the field. I hope his injury woes are behind him, and I hope this new front office/coaching staff will support him

Reggie Ragland - Eh... he'll probably be a solid IDP this year, but I'm not high on his future

Mychal Kendricks - Why wasn't he getting playing time during that 2-year stretch? What's going on between his ears or behind closed doors that we don't know about? Sell if you can get LB2 prices

Jayon Brown - JAG

Ryan Shazier - Sell for anything

Patrick Unwuasor - JAG

Lawrence Timmons - On his last legs, or at least he should be. I'd expect McMillan to replace him as the 3-down guy by season's end

Duke Riley - JAG. Doesn't play fast enough to compensate for his diminutive stature, unlike the Telvin Smiths or Buccanons of the LB world

Brown was a tackkling machine for you, which is good in your scoring.
Woodyard had a solid year for you and I look to him to duplicate that - even though he's never done this before.
I liked Ragland coming out of college. I think KC is a good landing spot for him now and could see him get established there.
Kendricks did really well this year - nearly as good as his brother in Minny!
not sold on Goodson yet - but I've always had bad luck with Gint LBs...

they might be your corps going forward at this point - Timmons is in decline... hang onto Riley to see what he does his sophomore season.
