Trading Offense for IDP

Postby operwapitsai » Thu Aug 31, 2017 6:00 am

I dont see too many trade advice threads around here, however I would like to expand this thread into advice for trading Offensive players for IDPs.

First off, my roster specific question is for Team 1

I Give:
D. McFadden

I Get:
F. Clark
D. Fowler

Defensive scoring is somewhat standard (1pt Tackles, .5 Assist, 1 TFL, 3 Sacks)

I think McFaddens value will increase during the season being the potential starter in Dallas for half the season. This offer is coming from the Zeke owner as well. I am also in need of DL help after Robert Quinns move to LB. Should I move a potential starter at RB for these 2 DL?

If you have no input about the trade, What advice do you take in regards to trading Offensive players for IDP, and vice versa? There doesnt seem to be much info out there comparing the values of the two.

May I suggest giving this a try? This is my favorite subject.

Huh, I must have missed this. What an odd question to be answered so recently! Thanks

I have used this method to compare players at different positions by comparing the #1 and #12 at each position in PPG. Maybe with a quantified formula it will make it more accurate.

So with my trade, I should gauge what I think a players future potential will be, say Clark may be a DL2, and compare it against what I believe McFadden should put up?
Obviously there is a much greater difference in PPG between the #1 and #30 RB than there is between the #1 and #30 DL.... Should I value McFadden much greater than I should a DL? (assuming he is gets the heavier load these first 6 weeks)

Ok, this is where the community gets divided on this subject: projecting the future. I use the consensus DLF rankings to help start my unbiased lists of positional rankings, then I move those just a little based on my own personal feelings. Ultimately you will settle on your own "rankings" and you'll have your own DE6, or LB10, etc to value. What do you do with that though? I plug my rankings into a custom value chart that I create for each and every league I'm in. See the link in my signature for examples.

I make these charts to save me from doing all of the hand-calculating during the season when I receive/send trade offers. I have too many teams to not have a handy 'cheatsheet' on each league's valuation/format/settings. If I just do the work each February before the offseason gets cranked-up, I'm ready for an entire year of trigger-happy transactions.

You can learn how to make your own custom charts or you can pm me for help in that area.
