FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots have placed starting cornerback Leigh Bodden on season-ending injured reserve with a shoulder problem.

In other moves Tuesday, the Patriots put three other players on IR -- safety Josh Barrett with a shoulder injury, defensive back Brett Lockett with a chest injury and defensive lineman Darryl Richard with a foot injury. They also released defensive back Terrence Johnson to reach the 75-player roster limit.

Bodden had missed much of training camp, but he returned to practice last week and played in Thursday's 36-35 preseason loss to the St. Louis Rams.

Tough loss for the Patriots. Bodden was someone atleast capable of filling in as a byeweek replacement for FF owners.
