Peppers or Adams

Postby WONDERBALLS » Mon Jul 03, 2017 5:34 am

On the Clock in MFL Draft

Do 1.5 point / tackle and 1.0 point per 1.5 yards punt return

Does Jabrill Peppers overall utility and his potential to play roles on offense and special teams justify pick over Jamal Adams?

I don't think so - Adams will be solid and consistent week to week. Peppers doesn't have a defined role yet and will be pretty hard to predict how they will use him yet.

I'm in the Peppers camp for return yardage leagues.

Same here. he may end up with both kick and punt returns

Give me Peppers. Adams is the better player but he will be used to cover tight ends (as he is very good in coverage) and I believe I read on here that the Jets typically rotate their safeties from free to strong...meaning, less tackle opportunities (when compared to a pure strong safety like Peppers)...if I am incorrect about that, I'm sure I will be corrected quickly, haha.

I'm with Peppers too for fantasy in return yard leagues. Adams is a vastly superior player, but that doesn't mean he's better for fantasy unfortunately.

Patrick Peterson is a really good return man too. How did that work out for him?

It's rare to collect IDP stats and return yards. If you're good at part 1 you normally don't do part 2.

Comparing an elite corner that QBs don't throw at to a strong safety that will play in the box isn't really the same tho. You make a valid point that placing too much weight in return yards prob isn't wise tho. Having said that, Peppers should have more regular opportunities for tackles than Adams tho...imo atleast.

This is getting silly. They are safeties. Keep it simple. If a player is on the field for a normal workload and collects extra scoring from returning kicks/punts, then he is more viable than his counterpart that only plays one phase. We are comparing two players that have not proven anything at the NFL level.

Take the higher percentage play. Pat Peterson was a very strong play while it lasted. So was Adam Jones. Note that return duties typically last a short time, so be willing to sell high when these players hit.

I'd say Adams. I've read that Bowles likes to use his safeties interchangeably and that may lead to Adams playing some snaps away from the LOS. However, I still believe his tackle production will be fine. NYJ's linebackers aren't as good as Cleveland's, so Adams (and Maye) will be on the field all the time. Peppers will have to compete for tackles with two of the better LB's in the league.

Both will probably be productive, but I'd take Adams by a sliver just because he should never leave the field and he might be their best off the ball tackler already as a rookie.

My thoughts as well. Adams is a baller. I'll hitch my wagon to him.

My typical philosophy in any league format is to ignore return yardage for this reason. It is rare to have a returner contribute regularly in other facets of the game and vice versa.
