Dante Fowler

Postby The Red Rooster » Fri May 05, 2017 7:58 am

Is it time for me to give up on him? I know a few league mates really liked him 2 years ago...should I just try to get anything I can for him at this point? It seems like he will at best be a rotational back up on he weak side. Thanks for any input!

Get what you can for him; 4-3 DEs are a premium. Send emails to owners in your league who do not have depth at 4-3 DEs - plant a seed and let them know you are exploring opportunities to balance your roster. Ask them to consider player for pick trades or if they have a WR2 they would give. Hold into the pre-season and see if Fowler's value increases. Keep dialogue open with needy owner until you decide what his value is, what you can get in return. Maybe Yannick or Smoot will have the misfortune of a season ending injury...Good Luck

As an aside, Last season I received a 2017 1st and 3rd for Donte Fowler and Jerry Hughes. That was before he had a pedestrian 2017 campaign. He's ranked at 40+ DE in Fantasy Sharks and Football Guys. DLF has him at the bottom of its published dynasty rankings.

Thanks all....I need to free up a few roster spots and was trying to figure out who to let go.

Booker, Rudolph, Whitehead and Mathieu are also likely to leave (hopefully, via trade instead cuts).

Cut honey badger before cutting Fowler.

I like Spence, but wouldn't drop Fowler for him.

In the last 5 seasons in Jacksonville the DEs have combined for a total of 50 sacks. So basically 10 a year split among all the ends who get on the field.

So let's say Fowler [optimistically] get's 50% of all of them this year - that's 5 sacks.

Either the Jags need to drastically improve or Fowler needs to get a LOT better. A couple of pieces have changed but it's still the same coaching staff and uninspiring roster. I'm not betting on either one of those things happening so I don't think Fowler will be a good IDP option anytime soon.
IDP guy from England. Bashes out articles with dodgy graphs

Fowler is a bum. He also led the league last year in penalties. If I were JAX, he'd be relegated to SAM backer to save his health (too small).

Easy sell.
Just a guy who loves fantasy football - specifically defense.

I ended up trading away 1.06, 2.06 and Fowler to move into 1.03....where I fully expect Corey Davis to be sitting there waiting for me based on the guys picking at 1.01 and 1.02.

I need to turn multiple picks and players into a single player or future picks...I just do not have any available roster spaces to clear out my IR from last season and sign rookies.

Thanks guys.

DE is a bit like TE, it typically takes time for players to learn the position, so I try to be patient with them. I see that you've already found a solution but I would for sure drop Tahir Whitehead rather than Fowler. Whitehead is on borrowed time as a viable IDP option and will struggle to keep a meaningful role going forward.

Yea, I agree...thanks for the advice. I actually flipped Whitehead and the #29 pick for the #26 pick...wasnt much but, the guy wanted to take a flier on him.
