Denzel Perryman

Postby Weeping_Souls » Mon Apr 10, 2017 1:02 pm

Hi all,

What do you all think of Denzel Perryman. There is a logjam of talent at LB (Jatavis, Toomer, Perryman) with the Chargers so they obviously all cannot score high points. In a tackle heavy league do you see Perryman as someone who could be a top 30 LB next season and beyond or is he just another mid range guy?

I'm fairly sure Brown & Perryman will be the starters. Toomer should be pure depth.

The question is, will Perryman play 85-95% of the snaps? If not, he'll be a LB3/4 with LB2 ceiling. Pass.

This is purely speculation but here is my thoughts on how the Chargers will use their LB:
SLB: Toomer or Perry
MLB: Perryman
WLB: Brown

I say this because it's expected that Gus Bradley will deploy the same style of defense used during his time in Jax. Brown is best fit at WLB due to his speed and is actually a decently close comparison to Telvin Smith. Perryman is best suited as a middle of the D run stuffer a la Paul Posluszny. Now my only concern with Perryman would be whether or not he stays on the field for 3 downs. I think Brown will for sure but that leaves one other LB UNLESS they decide to use Addae or Dexter McCoil as the nickell LB....

Just my $.02.

I think if Perryman can stay healthy the results will satisfy owners. The 3-down question is the big one though, and should be the true difference maker in terms of how high his ceiling actually is. I'm a big fan of his, but admittedly do have concerns based on the above that would have me hesitant to 'overpay' despite feeling like he can be a highly productive option in run support.
