Timmy Jernigan to Philly... DT or DE?

Tim Jernigan just got traded to Eagles, will be start over Curry as a 4-3 DE? Or will he be a DT, filling in for Bennie Logan?

I suppose he would probably start at DT over Beau Allen, but I can't see him being a DT1 WITH upside. Being a top 12 DT in & of itself is probably his best possible ceiling. I can easily think of 15 or more DTs I'd take over him.

I'll admit my view is optimistic. I've loved Jernigan since he was drafted. I believe scheme limited him in Baltimore. In Philly, Cox and the others will receive all the attention leaving Jernigan to feast. He's already a top level run defender and he has also shown the ability to rush the passer as well. I believe his ceiling is top 5.

Something like a 25-20-7 line is feasible I suppose. Absolute ceiling of course

I'm cautiously optimistic by the move today... using PFF as a filter he graded out well overall and pretty good vs the run. I would temper expectations as Schwartz seemed to use the DT opposite Cox equally. Both Allen (413) and Logan (467) logged similar snap counts (however Logan did miss 3 games) last year. Jernigan had 631 with Baltimore last year. I think he would need to see a similar snap count this year to reach his potential upside, I'm just not sure he'll get the volume?? The Eagles staff like Allen... I wonder if we see a similar platoon play-out again this year, limiting Timmy's upside. I'll be keeping a close eye on this during training camp... certainly some cheap value in DT premium scoring.
