Jaylon Smith

Postby pierson242 » Mon Mar 13, 2017 4:19 am

What to do what to do??? Loved watching this guy play in college paid pretty good for him in the rookie draft last year but now he's left me hanging. Should I hold on to him this year and hope his nerve damage doesn't affect him or would I be better off selling him with the rookie hype he's somehow still holding onto???

You held him on IR or your active roster all year long. Why would you sell now? What would be your endgame? Certainly wouldn't be to cash in on elevated value. I'd hold.

Has there been some news about Jaylon Smith? I thought there was a good chance of him playing in 2017.

Not only is there a "good chance", I'm pretty certain he's about fully recovered already and expected to participate in the entire off season program. I will see what I can find to confirm. It may have been something I heard on Dallas radio.

EDIT: I guess I missed the report from about 2 weeks back that indicated the nerve hasn't fully regenerated. But it doesn't read all negative. He's working out, etc. seemingly healthy at this point. I guess there is just still some uncertainty as to how it will impact his future.

For me, he's like every other player on my roster, if I can get good value, I'll move him. If it helps, I sent him in a trade with Theo Riddick for Ingram and 2.04 (14th)

Temper your expectations. He still has drop foot. He will have to wear an AFO brace which extremely limits his ankle ROM; it keeps your foot flexed up so you don't trip over your toes. I sold when I heard that.

Looks like Jaylon will play in the preseason game tomorrow, looking forward to seeing him on the field!

I'm bonafide scared as hell watching him play. He looks like a shell of his former self and is still not up to the speed we saw on his college tape. It's a really good story for him, but a sell opportunity for me. I'd want a 2018 2nd and feel real good about recouping my investment.

It was his first game in the NFL after missing an entire season and coming off a major injury, so I think it goes without question he wasn't going to look like he did in college. That wasn't a realistic expectation. He is still going to grow and develop for the NFL game.

That said, you do need to continue to assess whether you want to wait and hope he makes it back to that form or not, and if you don't, now that he's back is the best time to sell. I just wouldn't do it off of his first twelve snaps in the league as a conclusive of how he is going to look going forward.

Totally fair, Ed. Didn't mean to infer I have him rostered. I reread my post and see how that could be implied. I've just been really awakened to just how critical two good knees are to LBs. I only know of Sean Lee making it back and sticking after a bad knee injury. Jaylon's situation is all too familiar in recent memory for me.

Off the top of my head Thomas Davis and Navarro bowman both played after major knee injuries and did well. Navarro is facing another now though so we will see. I am sure there are others

Yeah, good mention on Thomas Davis. He's unreal. Bowman... I'm not sold on him sticking around.
