LB, DB, or DL

Postby pierson242 » Wed Jan 11, 2017 4:49 am

In a 14 man start up league with pretty basic scoring. Our draft is set up to where in round 2-10 you take an offensive and defensive player. I have pick 14 so I will have the first pick in the second round. DB and LB are the highest scoring. Do I take an elite DL since they are hard to come by even though they score the least points of all or draft an elite LB or DB please help!

I would say LB always. Never a DB that early; they can be found at bargain prices later. I would tend to think the LB run would happen in Round 2, and then you would still likely have an opportunity to grab a reasonably top-tier DL next time around. I think I would be more concerned overall, if I am reading this correctly, that every offensive round, you will have the worst selection, and every even numbered round, you are going to have to highest choice of a defensive player. That sounds to me like a recipe for getting stuck with a team with not a lot of offensive punch and that's not good in fantasy.

No its a regular snack draft so I draft last in the first round, first in the second round etc, you just get to make two picks each time. But I was thinking LB too. Thanks for the input!

Unless the top LBs literally score like twice or 3x as much as the top DL, go DL. You can always find LB on waivers, and the top guys fluctuate a ton. With DL, if you get yourself a stud they are much better than the Timmy Jernigan & Connor Barwins of the world. This was a very oddly down year for DL btw, but don't let that skew you.

I would definitely go for somebody like Mack if he's available, in most leagues guys likes him and JJ Watt usually score a lot more than the next top 10 scoring players at the position.

Never take a DB that early.

Word of caution with Mack - there is muttering that he may bounce to a OLB Pass Rusher.

But yeah, DL. I used to think LB when I first started IDP but have changed my ways.

Mack (if DL) Watt, R. Jones or L. Collins would be the only guys I'd even come close to consider taking before a top LB. Otherwise top tier LB's are simply more consistent from week to week. That being said, if you have the first pick at any defensive player, go LB.
