Reuben Foster

Much will depend on where he ends up being drafted, so we can account for the scheme, role, etc., however, i'm wondering what people see for Foster's potential as soon as next season. Me personally, I plan on going after him in my league despite having a deep LB core. I see no reason he can't be CJ Mosley (pre-2016 version) right from the start.

Thoughts?

I've had a man crush on him since October. He is the best ILB prospect since Mosley (IMHO)

Foster is an absolute beast that can do it all and I agree with Lukky he's the best ILB prospect since Mosley. He should be able to step in and play at a high level wherever he goes.

I feel like I would have him ranked in the 6-10 range for LB from the get go.

Where would you draft him?

How early would you be willing to pull the trigger?

Ulp! This is what happened last year when Myles Jack was being drafted as a top 10 LB. Different situation/player of course but still...

Haha I hear you Tom. He's a special talent tho, and Jack happened to go to a situation where the WLB & MLB both are still above average. Foster in Indy, Miami, NYG, San Fran, etc will be a stud

Sort of, but not exactly, though I may just not have seen it to that degree. Jack had some incremental knee concerns for the long term, plus I don't think was view quite as the immediate volume tackler Foster can be. Also don't think he was viewed as the same pass rush potential. Coverage and all around talents? I can see that. Fantasy stats though I feel Foster gets the edge.

Then again, maybe my memory is short, but I definitely didn't have this same view of Jack, I know that.

I didn't think Jack was going to be a superstar straight away either Ed. But plenty of people did and really we're not talking true value here - we're trying to work out when players will get picked based on name recognition. I'd be shocked if Foster didn't go too early just because his name is famous.

Having said that I think he'll do well - just not as well as established top 10-15 LBs

It wasn't just the right away part (though second year would still be 'right away' and could happen IF Pos isn't full time), but also the uncertain longevity. The latter a potentially even bigger threat to the top ten component (if we're talking Dynasty rank).

I'm not too concerned with WHEN he gets picked, though acknowledge WHERE will be an impact to stat opportunities. Regardless, I don't think it is Name fame, as I would take his game/talent that I've seen and be okay with that projection. It isn't for everyone, and that's fine, but I'm probably comfortable putting him there in standard scoring when I look at the DLF LB rankings. I'd be willing to take that risk in certain instances. Not saying it will end in my favor, but I would.

In my balanced scoring, where guys like Houston, Von, etc. are equal producers it gives more wiggle room, but I think Foster has shown some downhill ability in the pass rush game and may get at least a few sacks per season to buoy his stats even more. He's fair enough pass game coverage to not be off on 3rd downs too, which is all I care about (not PDs or INTs which aren't reliable generally).

My point is just that I'm there. Whether I get him in the draft depends if I can get a pick below my 2.01 and above my 3.10, because I know I can't/won't go there given my needs/setup. I like him though.

Edit: I took a Dynasty rank approach above, but am fine with Dynasty AND 2017 Top 10 projection, with landing spot obviously a factor, but a risk i would take with my statement. My draft is post NFL Draft though.)
