Devy Question for a noob

Postby Belichickians » Wed Sep 19, 2018 9:39 pm

Can someone please explain how the eligibility works? I was viewing the rankings on DLF and I see the “top” RBs are 2020 guys.. does that mean there’s no chance they come out early? Asking because I have a couple 2019 1sts that I’d like to use on RB.

Would really need to see your league bylaws, but I'm in some leagues that only allow draft eligible players for the next year's drafts (aka, this year's draft (2018), I could only draft devy players if they were eligible to declare for the 2019 NFL draft). I am also in leagues that allow any college player to be drafted.

2020 would be "coming out early" for those guys. To be eligible for the NFL you basically have to be out of High School for 3 years, so typically that means the earliest you can enter the draft is after your Junior year or Redshirt Sophomore year. Those RBs are all in the class of 2021, so the earliest they are allowed to enter the NFL draft is 2020. They all will almost certainly elect to enter that year as it's in the best interest of RBs to start getting paid as early and as young as they can. There will probably be some outliers though, just like thins past year Damien Harris and Bryce Love somewhat surprisingly returned to school, they were both projected as 1st round picks in dynasty rookie drafts. They will be two of the top RBs available in 2019 as of right now, with David Montgomery of Iowa State (JR) looking like the early favorite for #1 RB in the class in my opinion.
