St. Louis Rams
Pick 1.1
Ndamukong Suh - DT Nebraska

Best prospect in the draft by far. Any other pick here is a major mistake. Considering how much Haynesworth gets paid, the Rams should have no problem shelling out the money it will take to sign him.

With the second pick, the Detroit Lions select....

Gerald McCoy

Image

Was thinking maybe grabbing the Tackle Okung from OSU, but McCoy is just so Dominate. The Lions were hoping the Rams would take a QB here, but McCoy is good enough.

With the 3rd pick in the NFL draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Eric Berry S Tennessee

Image

In my opinion he is the second best player in the draft. If McCoy is available I do believe that is the way they go but with both DTs off the board, Tampa needs to improve their defense.

Russell Okung - OSU

Postby Pilate » Thu Jan 28, 2010 2:42 pm

The Redskins are thrilled that the Lions passed on Russell Okung of OSU.

With Chris Samuel's struggling with injuries, securing an OT is top priority for the Skins and they are thrilled to land the top OT on the board who can play either the right or left side.

Pissed about Eric Berry and Russel Okung both going, the Chiefs just can't go wrong with the top CB on the board, Joe Haden of Florida. He is the best cover corner and great tackler...

The Seattle Seahawks select Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma University

Though many pundits have Jimmy Clausen rated higher, the medical evaluation will clear that up prior to the draft. Bradford has elite accuracy, easily the #1 asset a college QB can have going for him that is fully transferable to the NFL. He will be afforded the luxury of learning behind former Pro Bowl QB Matt Hasselbeck as Matt's career winds down. Bradford must learn to move in the pocket better and improve his pocket presence, as he's rarely had to face a lot of pressure throughout his college career and when he did he got wrecked! That being said, the taller, more accurate and in my opinion stronger armed Bradford is the clear choice of the Carrol regime to signal the beginning of a new era in Seahawks football. Jeremey Bates, who was Cutlers QB-coach in Denver will help refine the young signal-caller as he grows under Matt Hasselbeck for at least half a year. The Seahawks are thrilled he's still available at their pick.

Well, Steve already hosed up my pick here. I am fully expecting Haden to be on the board here and the Browns to take him. If not and things are truly like this, Cleveland could be working a similar draft this season as last and start moving back right here. With neither of these scenarios a possibility in a mock draft, Cleveland selects:

LB Rolando McClain, Alabama

The Browns actually had a decent rush defense in 2009 and their biggest needs are in the defensive backfield but anyone selected here would be a major reach. McClain gives them a great player in the middle of the field to build up an even stronger defense against the run.

Other possibilities:
WR Dez Bryant
QB Sam Bradford* ( I am expecting that both he and Clausen will already be off the board, but if Clausen gets selected first and Bradford is here they may not wait until later in the draft to grab a QB. )
OLB Sean Weatherspoon (Best OLB available and a bigger need...but top 10 seems a bit aggressive)

As Shawn says: "Anybody but Clausen". To be honest, I have liked some of what I have seen of him on film. But I just can't get past taking yet another QB from a mediocre college football program.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

With the 8th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders select:

Bruce Campbell,OT,Maryland

Image

With Rolando McClain and Joe Haden just gone off the board and Taylor Mays not having run a 40 time in the 4.30ies(so far) Al Davis might finally provide all his offensive top 10 selections with an OT.

Campbell is big and athletic and might actually be a good selection for Al Davis.

Too good or too logic for Al Davis?

Other available possibilities: Taylor Mays, Carlos Dunlap,Brian Price,Derrick Morgan,Jason Pierre-Paul,Brandon Spikes,Dez Bryant(!) etc.

With the 9th pick, the Bills select: Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa

I realize that there were several "sexy" pics on the board at this point, namely Clausen and Dez Bryant. But, I'll almost be willing to bet that the Bills go with an OT at this spot... especially if Bulaga is on the board. In my opinion, there's no point in using a high draft pick on a QB if we can't keep him on his feet. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... they should have drafted Michael Oher last year. For my sake ( and sanity ), let's hope Buddy Nix doesn't let a great talent go by again.

With the 10th pick.... The Denver Broncos Select

Postby bigcsr67 » Fri Jan 29, 2010 8:01 am

Mike Iupati: Gaurd, Idaho

Image

Denver had some other needs, but with an aging interior of thier offensive line, the Broncos could use the versitility and skills that Iupati brings. Also, the change in offensive shemes made this selection a little easier for me. Iupati is a real road grader that will help the flailing ground game alot.

With their 1st round pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars select - Tim Tebow - QB Florida - This is the kind of move the Jaguars need to make if they are serious about staying in Jacksonville. Last season, average home attendance was just over 40,000 fans a game, in a stadium that seats over 70,000, which is unheard of for an NFL franchise. Drafting Tebow immediately makes Jacksonville a much more popular team in the area, as Gainesville isn't too far away from Jacksonville and its not far-fetched to think that the fans attending Gator games on Saturdays couldn't go to Jacksonville to attend games on Sundays, plus Tebow jersey and merchandise sales should have a huge impact on the team. There are other positions of need here of course, and drafting Tebow will be a controversial pick, but if they really want to stay in Jacksonville, this is the move that could save the franchise there. Consider that Jacksonville has been a playoff contender in the past several years and still is having big problems with ticket sales, and move to somewhere like Los Angeles is imminent without a decision like this. Jimmy Claussen is also still available here, but drafting him or anyone else wouldn't bring the impact and ticket sales of drafting Tebow, the Jags could go 3-13 next season and still see a big increase in ticket sales with Tim Tebow playing there as the face of their franchise.

With the 12th pick the Dolphins select...

Postby Risky bidness » Fri Jan 29, 2010 7:21 pm

Dez Bryant: Wide receiver, Oklahoma State

Image

Breaking the Bill Parcell mode, he picks his first, first round pick at WR since T. Glenn. I thought about DT here in D. Williams from the Vols, but opted to go Dez to solidify the WR core. I like Ginn JR. as a deep threat and #2. Gave a brief thought to C.J. Spiller, but Chad Henne needs a legit WR to progress. We're excited to have Bryant on the Phins. Really would've given a serious look at McClain, but he was taken.

Other players considered: Carlos Dunlap DE, Derrick Morgan DE, DT Dan Williams, Brandon Spikes MLB

Joey Porter looks like he's on his way out to Miami so Dunlap and Morgan would've filled that need. Channing Crowder is washed up IMO and Spikes would've filled that need.[/b]

With the 13th pick the San Francisco 49ers select Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

Image

With this pick the 49ers address one of two areas of concern. Davis has been on the 49ers radar for a long time and I have him as one of the top three offensive lineman in this draft. Very pleased that he was available at this point.

With the 14th pick in the 2010 NFL draft acquired from Denver, the Seattle Seahawks select: C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson.

"C.J. Spiller stands head and shoulders above every other back in his class. He has great quickness to the hole, and so has better holes to hit. He has elite speed exiting the hole, and so maximizes the holes he gets. He's a special receiver and returner and the combined value of those skills can be as a much or more than that of his rushing."

"The very concept of "feature back" is foolish. It's the same thinking that argues Ichiro cannot be a great baseball player because he doesn't hit home runs. Production is production and Spiller produces. The pound it out, four. four. four. rusher of yore is dying out. But the great running back is not. It's adapting. And smart teams are adapting their definition accordingly."

"Not a feature back."

"Not big enough to carry the load."

"Just a running back anyway."

"But the best skill position player in the draft."
-John Morgan, Field Gulls: "The Case for C.J. Spiller" http://www.fieldgulls.com/2010/1/13/125 ... -j-spiller

Image

I have to say I was wondering if Anthony Davis would be there. Davis is considered the best LT prospect in the draft by some, and I would have had to carefully weigh my decision if he was still available. However, our new offensive line coach Alex Gibbs usually prefers to find his OL prospects past the first round and mold them into excellent players. Look for Seattle to target a lighter, fleet-of-foot, athletic OT fit for his ZBS (Zone Blocking System) in the 2-5th rounds. It was too early to take Charles Brown, who would be a great fit.

Especially when you can add the best skill player in the draft - with the potential to improve into a similar player to Chris '4.24' Johnson in terms of his skill-set. Add in the fact Seattle had lacked an explosive return man, the young multi-purpose grenade-launcher of a RB will help the younger Seattle offense grow and improve special teams at the same time. :) I loves me some Spiller.

I think the media thinks Seattle is looking for a DE to replace Patrick Kerney. I think between Lawrence Jackson (who is improving heading into his 3rd season) and Darryl Tapp the position is set at it's starters. I think if the best 4-3 DE in Morgan were available at 14, Seattle might still fortify it's pass-rush by taking Morgan. I think Price is the 3rd best 4-3 DT in the draft at this point. He would be hard not to draft and start next to Mebane.

Others considered: Derrick Morgan, Brian Price, Charles Brown, Earl Thomas.
